Pretty disappointing Test debut for the Afghans thus far. Afghanistan over attacking with field placements and essentially bowling like it's an elongated limited overs match. Dhawan hammered a century before lunch. 196-1 off 35 overs. Rashid Khan going at over 7 runs per over
-
Looks like India are planning ok moving on from pancake king pujara, he's lost his spot at 3 to the very impressive kl Rahul. Obviously when Kohli returns someone has to warm the bench
-
248/1. Buffet bowling, fill your boots.
-
Rain stops play with Murali Vijay 99* and Rahul 44*
Sadly I think a hammering could be on the cards for Afghanistan
-
Feel a bit sad for Afghanistan but they will only learn from this even if it becomes a thrashing.
It just goes to show the difference between the highest form of the game and the white ball formats.
-
In their defence though, they've started against the best batting side in the World, whom are all adept at playing spin bowling on a wicket they're familiar with. Afghanistan's attack bowling at an European or Antipodean side (not including Smith who's a fantastic player of spin) in those conditions would likely fair much better.
Like you said though, just shows you how difficult Test cricket is.
-
The Afghani's fought back reasonably well, restricting the powerhouse Indian batting line up to under 500. Whilst Rashid and Mujeeb are limited overs Kings, in Test cricket it is not about countless variations, but you need to have a stock ball which helps you build pressure on the batsmen. Hopefully Rashid and Mujeeb learn this otherwise they'll become ineffective in Test cricket like other 'mystery' spinners Ajantha Mendis and Sunil Narine.
The Afghani batting isn't as of yet up to Test standard, trying to beast the ball around isn't a winning method against experienced campaigners like Umesh and Ishant

Got to feel slightly sorry for them. Getting absolutely hammered
-
The whole thing seems a little unfair to me.
"Welcome to test match cricket, to ease you into the transition here's the best team in the world, oh and you'll be playing them in their favoured home conditions too."

Agreed . Should have been a few tests between afganistan and ireland (and tours to bangladesh and Zimbabwe ) in the scgedule for the first 12 months .
-
India 474 all out
Dhawan 107, Vijay 105, Pandya 71, Rahul 54
Afghanistan 109 all out
At the time of typing they're 24-4 following on.
Chance of a 2 day finish here? :(
-
Here's to the historic 2 day test match
-
Baptism by fire. The likes of West Indies, Australia and England use to do this plenty when minnows like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka got test match status.
Not many moaned about it back then, was accepted

Innings and 262 over in 2 days wow

Spot on. They should have done that but I also doubt if these lower ranked teams would like the idea much based on finances. That AFG cant play in AFG doesnt help things either.

Spot on!
