Title: XP80 - short blade long handle
Post by: ogroupleader on August 02, 2018, 03:44:03 AM
Have been meaning to post pics for a while.
I sent my light XP80 in for surgery. It now has 3/4 inch shorter blade and 3/4 inch longer handle. It now comes in at a featherlight 2lb 7oz.
Pictured alongside my heavy XP80 (2.12)

Thats awesome .
Just trying to work out /confirm ....which end was the blade shortened ?, as the stickers look unaffected at the top and bottom of the bat .
2lb7oz xp80 , thats incredible really !
I have 3 xp80s , original weights were 2lb9.5 , 2lb11, 2lb12. The two heavier ones were a bit too heavy , so i reduced some weight in the back of one (went from 2lb11 to 2lb9.7). The other i sent in to a batmaker to be reduced (went from 2lb12 to 2lb 9.5). When you also count that i chop the knob off the handle , which is about 0.5oz , my xp80s are now 2lb9, 2lb9, and 2lb9.2. I  feel like those weights are insanely light (i kept the samespine height on the bats that got weight reductions) for such big bats - but these are nothing compared to what you have managed to accomplish !
Very jealous . :D

Have the surgeries affected the balance and feel of the bat?

As much as I hate the non-existant toe of my xp80, I have to say that the bat is impeccably balanced and a 2-10 bat feels like a 2-7. If I went up in weight to a 2-12, it'd still feel very light  to me.

If you're asking me , then , no , the bats obviously pick up lighter because they are lighter , but the balance and feel are basically the same....if anything , slightly enhanced now  . Still have their giggle-inducing big middles too.

It was a complete re-handle so they had to replace the stickers. I was hoping they would just chop the length off the bottom but i wasn't specific about that so they have taken some off the bottom and some off the shoulders. It is much lighter than I am used to but the ball still flies off the middle.
