What in your opinion would it be
Is the clear favourite SS ?
-
Robinson sports
-
Ahh should have also mentioned Robinson
I believe they make all new balance bats ? Is that true ?
Why Robinson's over SS ?
-
Sondhi make a lot of bats.
-
Sondhi make a lot of bats.
they made my NB bat and its a gun shame i don't do it justice
-
So to confirm who makes new balance bats currently is it sondhi or is it Robinson's ?
Ok have seen its FC sondhi.
Do Robinsons make bats for any established brands

SS the best

SS,SG,BAS,BDM,FCS in no particular order

I think that's a fair quote above .if the above were to ranked in terms of longevity of bat any thoughts ?
-
I've had a bunch, best of the lot was a BDM. Have heard good things of BAS as well.
-
Thank you :)
Why the bdm out of the bunch ?
-
I believe longevity can not be generalised as willow is natural material.
But if you are considering to buy an Indian bat I would recommend to directly contact the bat makers (which I guess throws the above listed makers out of window.), you will be surprised by the quotes they offer you for a bat, and if know some one in India ask them to contact the bat makers for you and you will get a bat for even less money.
-
I would argue bas has the best pressing , robinsons seem to be very good overall . Sg would be somewhere near the bottom for me in terms of longevity as ive seen heaps of sg's (and kooks) break beyond repair too early in their lifespan .
-
Do you suggest contacting bas direct . Robinson's is a bit weird the email address throws back undeliverables. BAS seems to get really good comments
Now I'm thinking a cheap ton .. they seem to perform out the packet
I liked the SS stickers but have read they need constant oiling etc .
A cheaper UK ton may be the way to go ...
After reading reviews have been put off from online stockist and ordering from an Indian retailer to be shipped .
-
Yeah I am suggesting to contact the bat makers, though I donot think BAS will be interested in an individual order.
But u can certainly find them on facebook and try to contact them there. Most of the Indian bat makers can b reached out through Facebook(Same goes for BAS,BDM, RS...).
Try during 12:00-19:00 IST
Rest is upto u.
-
Reading the comments on here made the conclusion to go for cheaper pinging Indian bat from a UK retailer doesn't seem worth the risk of importing from India .
Bas looks good though.
-
SS and SG are among the 2 most reputable companies in india. Not to mention SG also make all the kookaburra bats. If personally i were to get a bat from india i would go to one of these 2

Problem you would have is paying the delivery cost, then the import tax. Could cost another 100 quid on top of the bat

Thank you :)
Why the bdm out of the bunch ?
The BDM was about 2lb 10oz, picked up slightly lighter but had a beautiful sort of pendulum feel to it's swing, and the middle on it was superb - ball absolutely flew off it. Managed to clear a pavillion with a huge six once, only to pick out the bonnet of my own car. Handle was round though and quite thin - I've only got small hands so that suits me - guess it depends on your preference in that regard. In terms of performance though, not had an Indian bat as good yet - in fact the only one I've had better was a GM that eventually opened up and was superb.

Unless you get a Slaz like you did on the cheap - effectively a grade 3 New Balance DC that would be £180+ for £50 - made by Sondhi and great quality. Likewise you can get cracking deals on Kookaburra at 3d, and other places probably, at the end of the season without having to import. Did notice that onlinestockist are now selling the Deluxe Sports (DSC) bats.
-
SS used to be good years ago, even now the willow/performance is quite good but handles have gone ridiculously thin that you would need an extra grip over what you normally use which would put the weight way above what you might be used to..not to mention the poor handle qualities as well...
-
I agree with the handles it's rediculously thin.
I'm thinking perhaps a cheap ton now they do just a good a job from what I seen ping everywhere .
Alternatively maybe a new balance in the sales ....

There are some very good smaller vendors in India, you’ve just got to know which ones.
I have had pro bats from ton and pro bats from other vendors which have been better

I'm hearing a lot how Robinsons is standout as a bat.
Anyone got direct dealings or direct contact details ?
-
I will say try RNS Larson. I am not saying its best as i haven't tried all indian makes to compare so cant say which is best. Rns bat i have is as my match bat is amazing. One of forum member has seen it in person and did say its good bat and he knows lot more about bats than me.
People have mixed review about rns but that's more to do with owners attitude i think. I had bad experience with Robinson not bat but other goods thats topic for another day.
-
I've seen and had some great Larsons bats - if you can get from a reputable source, they can be great.
I think people had issues with the quality of sticks being sold by the guy set up as Larsons on Facebook.

That's the trick isn't it - anyone know of a reputable source?
-
Novak, being based in South Bucks you are really close to SS, they are based in High Wycombe. Normally have a massive selection in stock from what I hear.

I think guy selling on Facebook with bet option is genuine Larson guy. I bought all my bats through Facebook from him.
Larson BAS Robinson etc are in my home town in India. I could source direct when needed. Recently I had Anthem bat direct from manufacturer and it's great. I haven't played with it but so far so good.

I have bought several bats from Robinsons. Fantastic quality offered at a relatively cheaper price (25-40% less compared to major brands). Contacts can be found from their facebook page. Jolly Singh is pretty responsive and reliable.

So which one will u prefer and are they easy to contact and deal with ??
-
At moment I prefer larson as I have used it in matches and scored and i know it performs well. It is duck bill shape that i did not like but since i played with it i haven't faced any issue so far. Last sunday i mishit a shot from toe for a four so no issue with duck bill shape so far.
Anthem has better balance what i felt but bear in mind both are complete different shapes so cant compare against each other.
Regarding the ease of contact, for me both are good as they are local to my family and i can send anyone down with specs and shape what i want. After sale experience has been good with larson but to be honest i haven't had any issue with bat that i had to get back in touch with him.

I want Hardik Pandya's bat. Looks the nuts
-
SS, SG, Robinsons, Sondhi (New balance), BAS
All make excellent bats
if you want thick handle then go with Robinsons,Sondhi
If you want softer pressed bats go with SS/SG

The sg bat looks nice .
Has anyone used any cricket retailer from India . I always read bad reviews on Facebook about retailer purchases and the tax seems off-putting . Doesn't seem worth it .
I may go bangalore early next mid next year anyhow .
-
Yup ordered loads from Crown Cricketer. Never been taxed.
-
Personally have never used Crown Cricketer but have friends who went to the store when they were in Bengaluru and purchased their gear.
-
Robinsons make excellent bats - I have the pro model and that is a rocket. I have heard they used to make bats for Sachin. Currently few floating on ebay at good prices
BDM, SS, BAS and SG also good bats. Not tried FCS yet so cant really tell.
-
Not Indian obviously.... but I've had a number of Boom Boom bats and every one has been a gun.

whats the gear like from there and the bats they good? the NB bats looks fabulous espically for the price

Just saw this. Well, I have been out of the loop for many years. But if old things still hold true, I would advise you to pay a visit up north to Jallandhar and Meerut, specially the first one if you get the time. And when you do, just scoot past the big names, go to the backstreets to the small independent shops, and have a bat handmade up to your specifications for at max 100 pounds. You can order softs too. There are many smaller companies that are really good. If you need consistency in a bulk order, they will not be very consistent. But if you have a small order and have a day to spare, that will be worth the effort. You can of course visit the factories of the bigger ones if you are inquisitive. BDM is a major example where the company does not (at least did not) make bulk orders for foreign companies. Also, do not be confused by the last name Mahajan when you are roaming the streets-- the other mahajans have no connection with the Mahajan of BDM. The smaller, yet bigger names (comparatively), like SM, ZX, etc. are good too. I used to have a diary where I would keep the contact info of many of these little known shops. Anyway, to get the maximum bang for your buck, get out of Bangalore, land in Chandigargh or Delhi and take a cab to Jallandhar. Be prepared to haggle and do not take things lying down and you should have a fun time.
-
As far as my experience goes even I was always hunting for bats seen on TV or retailers until I bought a couple of Phoenix bats from these guys in Bangalore. Top notch quality & pricing. Now majority of my club mates use their bats. Even their softs & kit bags are good. Many of my friends back in the US & Canada have also been using them with no problem & they shipping is very cheap. Communication is top notch. Experience has always been smooth & simple.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the pickup, balance and an even better performance by the new SG “Players Edition” bat.
In my opinion this New English Willow SG line is absolutely top notch. Mouth watering profile, great balance and extra ordinary performance. Miles ahead of SS and BDM and Spartans and CEAT and MRFs and whatnot - I think SG’s “Players Edition” is currently THE BEST Indian bat I have used. It’s pricey, yes! But what you pay is what you get.
Look for one in not more than 1150 grams with a 38 mm minimum edge size. And then put an extra octopus grip on it. You will be pleased.
And yes, almost all retailers in India are scammers and liars. May be there are some good ones but I haven’t come across any, and unfortunately the SG factory doesn’t sell directly.
Your best bet is EBay where you can check the rating of Indian sellers and then ask them to find the name n model in your specs - they can then send you the pix and you can decide from there. EBay has a good buyer’s protection plan too.
-
I'd say for Asian brands Eclipse All Sports is best go to place.
Hanif has a great inventory including SS, SG, CA, BDM, CEAT, HS just the ones I remember..
-
Nice guy
Cricket shed cheaper though
