Title: An emotional weekend

Just beginning to come to terms with the death of a teammate in his sleep at the age of 18 last week. It's been an difficult weekend for our club with several very emotional tributes to a fine young man taken from us much to soon. So proud to be a member of Appleton CC in Warrington this weekend. I must also mention Barnton CC 2nd XI who took the decision to play with 10 men on Saturday (as did we) - that gesture and the respect they showed during the game was very much appreciated.

John, you will never be forgotten. Sleep well my friend.

Unfortunately it often takes tragedies like this to put things into perspective, condolences on your loss.

That's awful to hear. His family must be devastated. What a loss to those who knew him.

I think with plenty of press of un-sporting behaviour in the last few seasons i really hope the decision your opposition took to play with 10 gets some recognition... thats respect of the highest order if you ask me.

Loss of life like this is never going to be easy to anyone connected with the person or the family but it sounds like as a club you have remembered him well and will no doubt continue to do so for many years to come.

Very sad news, but its good to hear that the cricketing 'family' did the right thing though.

A club close to myself had the death of their chairman (aged 29) after a short illness. The weekend after minutes silence were observed, and certainly I know of one club that donated the tea money to the chosen charity of the deceased family.

Proves to me that the majority of club cricketers are good people.

Bloody hell thats no age - life can really be cruel at times.
