So Australia have just announced their squad... and it's shocking! Any Australian forumites care to predict a likely XI out of this lot? Guessing Smith and Warner will be rushed back in quick time for the Ashes.
Tim Paine (c), Ashton Agar, Brendan Doggett, Aaron Finch, Travis Head, Jon Holland, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitch Marsh, Shaun Marsh, Michael Neser, Matt Renshaw, Peter Siddle, Mitchell Starc

Wow Siddle is in that lineup...his stint at Essex must have raised his stock a fair bit
-
Must be one of lads stag do that weekend....

To be fair, take Englands two best batsmen and bowlers out and you would wind up with a pretty average looking side. Will be interesting to watch none the less, Holland's domestic stats say he should be able to do a job, can't really take his Sri Lanka tests into account as he was rushed over at a seconds notice. Siddle is honest and will give you line and length from an end. My tip is that Finch has the game to really do well at the top level and just needed this chance. I also hope that Travis Head takes this opportunity and makes the most of it.

Maxwell doesn't get selected even when Smith, Warner and less so Bancroft are banned. Thought it was a misprint but Maxwell once again can't get selected over likes of the Marsh boys. Absolute comedy
-
^^ Is Maxwell injured? Surely he must have got selected in this side.
-
Good to see Finch in the side.
-
Wow . Selectors should be shot .
Anyways.....
From this lot , 1st test XI
Renshaw
Finch
Khawaja
S.Marsh
Head
M.Marsh
Paine
Agar (Nesser if a 3rd pace bowler be preferred to a 3rd spinner)
Starc
Lyon
Holland

Two of our best batters from the last subcontinental tours , Maxwell and Handscomb , being omitted is puzzling .
-
Really like Handscomb, but he's had a shocker on the A tour. Renshaw had incredible early season form here in the UK, hope he gets back to that.
-
Pakistan will be favourites looking at this line up.
-
Seems as though Maxwell was owned by the selection committee. Maxwell had a deal to play red ball cricket for Yorkshire(assuming after Pujara left) and CA told him to rest up ahead of the A tour to India as he would be selected. Seems like maybe Langer and co might've given up on Maxwell

What a bunch of crap from the selectors related to reason for not selecting Maxwell. First you deny him the option of staking a claim and than come out and say he needs to score more centuries, which the guys selected have even worse conversion average. I have no stake in the selection but that reads like double standard one for Maxwell and another for the rest of the team. Pure speculation on my part but does the Al Jeezra (sp?) report have anything to do with him not being selected?

Not sure what the big deal is about Maxwell being left out? Its not like he is one of the country's premier test players. Its always tricky to fit someone in who doesnt necessarily play that brand of cricket.

I am not saying that he should have been selected but I have a problem with it when mgmt takes away the opportunity to potentially press your case as an option. Asking him not to take a county contract to rest up for India A tour (to me that means you will be selected (edit) at least for the India A tour) and than not selecting him for that tour was bit low.
