Title: Paul Collingwood
Post by: WalkingWicket37 on September 13, 2018, 10:09:17 AM
The end of a career for another legend.
Paul Collingwood has announced he will retire from all cricket at the end of the season

The first player to take 6 wickets and score a hundred in the same ODI
3 Ashes wins
Captained England to their world T20 win
10 Test hundreds with a best of 206

Happy retirement Colly, thanks for the memories

Next Scotland coach I wonder. Bradburn has just left and Colly has been involved before.

for those who like stats , and there are a few, averaged over 40 in test cricket
like Cook made the most of his ability and was a fighter

I do not fear correction from this powerful forum when I say England fans would have him back in todays test side by giving their right arm away.

Bobby Moore, Martin Johnson, Paul Collingwood.

Says it all. Absolute hero.

Interesting point this. It would be a struggle to fit him in our insane middle order! He would have to bat 3.
And would probably do it well enough.

Solid dependable player, would do anything for the team. Average of 40, absolute gun in the field and got enough players out with his ‘medium’ pace.

the blocathon against south Africa and at Cardiff...which never gets mentioned because it was Anderson and Panesar getting Ponting's blood going......live long in the memory

plus the catch off hayden in the one dayers

where he might bat in todays team is an interesting question posed by Buzz, leg sided technique but still managed a healthy average...

if your best technically correct players bat top 4 he's not in, for attitude and determination he is..

either way, a very very good all rounder cricketer

My absolute cricketing hero.

Agree with previous comments - would have loved to have seen him still playing for England, he'd have found a way to get by just on sheer force of will

I hope we get him in at Durham although I fear England may come knocking after not too long

Umm he avg’d 40+ .. better than anyone in our ‘world class’ middle order.. why would he struggle to get in?? Literally exactly what this rather gun ho England side need.....

Actually I take that back, no one at the ECB would have the sense to appoint him

Absolute top class player and still to be playing at his age shows his fitness and dedication - Durham will absolutely miss him.

Hope he comes back to Durham as a coach of some description but think FTECB might come calling.

Also a massive Sunderland fan so all the better for me!!

the ECB would be mad and stupid not to offer him a coaching job right now

Collingwood sealed legend status before he had played a test in this country - when asked what he brought to the side for the Oval test in 2005 he replied "a little bit of ginger".  :)

Marcus North is to oversee a coaching overhaul at Durham which actually just means they will appoint a batting coach to work alongside Jon Lewis. If they offer Collingwood that role I would genuinely take that as an insult on his behalf. If he doesn’t get the main job at Durham I suspect he will become a permanent part of the England set up.

Why are Durham even remotely interested in Marcus North's thoughts on their coaching set up?

Why are Durham even remotely interested in Marcus North's thoughts on their coaching set up?

Because he's the new Director of Cricket at Durham

I meant why have they recruited him

He’s been sniffing about for a while, done a lot recently for South Northumberland CC as CE or something like that. So I’m expecting more Durham games at the Gosforth ground that isn’t in Durham and is just hard to get to as CLS.

No way should games go there - its not even in Durham FFS

It's a nice ground to be fair, although I would prefer to see them at the Racecourse
