Anyone catch GN on the itv4 shoe Made in Britian?
Nice little insight into Robertsbridge and the staff who make the UK GN bats aka pro bats.

GN segment is around 30 mins into show

Interesting watch, always find it interesting how the pros set themselves up.
It's the pressing that always intrigues me most.
Also, love ITV's insistence that I watch 7 or 8 adverts prior to the bit I want to see. Do love Bremont watches as well.

Watched up to the GN bit - the DM's feature was quite interesting as well.
Always interested to see bats being made though!

Thanks for posting this, just saw it on catch-up, good watch.
Did they really say that the top dollar bats are not for the likes of Alistair Cook!?

Chris King did say pros have GN pro performance.
Would have thought the top players would have the best one percent of willow eg legend willow.

I think they're too good to give to pro's. If you think about how much they can charge for them it would be wasteful to give to a pro for it to only last a season, if that.
I've seen videos of Cook just picking up bats and hitting them with a hammer before https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3yd2njKIC4 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3yd2njKIC4)
edit- saying that after just watching the youtube clip i posted he does in fact take home 3 legend bats........willow was cheaper back in those days, not the 1000 pounds GN are charging now for the Legend

I’d say as england skipper and their main sponsored player he’d get to pick whatever he wants. Remember that there are a whole host of sponsored GN professionals OJ there of far lower profile.

ITV wants me to sign-in to view the video. Is it on Youtube?

Why though?
We all know it's the pressing that makes a bat ping, not the looks. Another key factor is the bloke on the end of it, if you gave someone who plays in div 7 with a career average of 4 one of Chef's bats they wouldn't suddenly become a world class opener!
Why give your sponsored player a bat that you can flog for £1,000 when they'd happily use anything so long as it performed well and felt right? Pro's tend not to care about looks or finishing, as long as it feels good and pings they'll use pretty much anything.
Also if you watch any of the domestic competitions, be it live or on television, you'll notice a lot of pros are actually using bleached bats at the moment! I can't imagine the manufacturers are bleaching their "best one percent of willow" before sending it to their sponsored players.

you could be onto something here.....why thou would amateur players such as us be more concerned about minor details on bats when we know a lot of pros don't fuss themselves.
is it because a lot of clubs players, a lot on this forum maybe deluded by thinking unless they have the dogs balls bat they wont score runs, maybe making ready made excuses for lack of success?
don't get me wrong..we all like a good bat but you are right to point out a lot seen on TV just don't look fantastic as in grains etc....
-
Anyone able to upload the ITV4 segment to.you tube ?
Is it worth watching ?
Anyone got close ups of the bleached bats
Sad state that this marketing cons are going on
You do always notice how white the bats are of the pros
But I really think none of them care abt the looks

i think there's a good mix of anything that feel ok in the hands to this heartwood isn't exactly 12mm wide, amongst pro players. I imagine some of them are pretty demanding.
