Title: GM Noir 2019
Post by: alexevo94 on October 19, 2018, 12:27:10 PM
After seeing the release of the new GM 2019 range i managed to pick up this beauty from Clean Hit Cricket. Weighs 2.9, and fabulous looking bat for £130. Was surprised by some of GM's grading for some of there others bats.

Where do the signatures fall into their grading?

I see it seems to fall between 606 and 707, I wonder what the idea is there, is it a 5 star dealer only job?

I do wish GM went the way of Kookaburra and really simplified their grading, the Signature's, Signature LE's, Players bats don't half confuse me.

Haven't they got about 8 grades which cover the top 2 grades of willow? Players Edition, Original LE, Original, Signature LE, 909, 808, 707, Signature.

Not trying to bring controversy but I read how a batmaker independant commented how the big companies have also many different profile shapes ie low middle , mid middle just to create sales

It was suggested the idea of a low middle and a mid middle is a con ..

Not sure what to think about that .. I do think bats have a lower middle on some but the opinion was to the contrary

Great bat hope you like it btw

wouldn't surprise me as its the same with everything. Every year have to change something to make them look new and get more sales

I think I can guess which batmaker you mean... not one of his better theories. In any case companies offering consumers plenty of different choices is hardly a bad thing, not everyone likes their bats the same after all.

If he were right we'd all be using the same bat and there would be no need to have a million different companies offering equipment.

Out of interest who do you think it is

No names need to be mentioned but location of batmaker would give the gist

And I would agree that it isn't one of his better contribution.  Recently I have seen him trying to argue concaving takes woodnaway from the hitting zone but then says that the profile of the bat is for aesthetics and makes no difference to the performance

Former forum sponsor with a real thing about "cheap imports" and "quality of handles"?

Fully on board with that, cheap thin handles are rubbish. "Profile makes no difference... which one of our seven different options would you like?" though...

@edge I wasn't disputing the theories mentioned, more asking if we were thinking of the same person.

You are correct with the assumption of who it is

It does confuse me though .

I personally do think a full profile makes a big difference km the edge rebound and the sweet spot simply from seeing the tendulkar profile and first hand experience

Secondly saying the profile makes no difference and a bat does not have a low middle or a high middle .

I respect him because it seems his customers are very happy but I do wonder sometimes.

Not trying to criticise but just wondered others opinions .

To me there's no doubt if there's more wood in a certain area, if prepared right and pressed right it may well perform better

I did notice one thing though it was argued pro s are able to have bats with massive wood in that bat at lower weight because the width of the bat is 4 inches as opposed to standard width

Is that quite common ?

They get the pick of the clefts and don't mind a huge bur light bat even if it will snap after a few hundred runs.  The average club player wouldn't pay top price for a bat no matter how good if it would only last for a short period of time

The argument was to the public though the pros bats are often light with lots of wood because they are smaller width wise

I can see why a pro may use a bat only 4 inch with sacrificing that little extra width but news to me

I have only seen a couple that were narrower than the regulations by a visible margin and they have been bays that have been refurbed a number of times and so had lost noticeable width through sanding. The bat he measured for his video was one in for refurb not a new one going out that a pro had requested at that width

Got a GM Noir Original LE from VKS and it’s probably the best performing bat I’ve seen . Already scored 121 runs with my first innings with it ( pace bowlers balling around 80 mph) . Solid start to the season . Has 10 straight parallel grains , despite 0.5/10 grains being heartwood which doesn’t take anything away from the bat . The bat weight is 2’10 but picks up like a 2’7.5-2.8 . Very impressed 😍

Does Noir have a mid sweet spot or mid-low?

Noir has a middle-low sweet spot , if you’re looking for a middle sweet spot ( Australian / South African ) conditions I’d go with Diamond if you aren’t used to a mid-low sweet spot .

The front profile of the GM Noir is pretty solid as well , as you can tell :
