Just the handle to go, fortunately in the nick of time a shout of thick oval saved the day ( talking of handles, Sam Billings now requests a 22mm handle!!!!!)

Bat at this stage weighed just over 2.9, still needed sanding, binding, grip, and stickers, so would go over 2.10. I was happy with it at this stage so i decided to see what it picked up like once gripped and before stickers.
Happy with the pick up, now to choose the stickers

And a custom back sticker as the bat was too big for the standard stickers

stunning bat Rob- how much did it cost for you be the lucky winner ;)
-
Shut the door! Wow that's quality bat. Lucky guy
-
Woosh
That is a bat.
-
Thanks for the write up and all the pictures. Looks a lovely bat. Shame there is so long to wait until the season starts (plenty of air cricket in the meantime?). I assume you wont use it in indoor nets...
-
I made videos of the bat making as well, so if anyone can recommend an editor for an iphone or samsung laptop that would be great.
No, wont be used in indoor cricket/nets, will be used in matches only. Needs knocking in as well
-
Seems the bat off the shelf was one of Varun Chopra's.

@thebigginge is looking a lot more hipster than before!

Spine is illegal?

Fantastic looking bat.
-
That's a stunning looking bat Rob, absolutely gorgeous.
The grains are top notch, the shape is lovely and those stickers are perfect. I've never liked the funky back stickers GN put on for each model, always think the chequered bars and red stripes look so classy though.
If it plays as well as it looks you'll be alright ;)

What's the max spine sanctioned by MCC laws? 65 mm?

"Bat edges will have a maximum allowance of 40mm and bat depths must not exceed 67mm (60mm plus an allowance of 7mm for a possible curve on the face of the bat) ..."

Good job Rob doesn't play professional cricket then! Not sure our local league reps would know a bat gauge if you threw it at them so wouldn't worry...
Looks mint @Six Sixes Cricket , you're a lucky man. Don't suppose you managed to sneak that cleft with the pressing crack out? :D
-
Yes, I did mean 'illegal' rather than illegal.
-
^ Well, I am not concerned about that. Issue is that bat makers had had stopped making any bats thicker than the MCC sanctioned max thickness. So, it's pretty nice that there is atleast ONE bat maker in the world who is willing to make a higher spine bat than MCC regulations.
We got pictures for it too. :D

What's the price for this bat?
-
Perhaps ironically, the very same batmaker is a strong believer that the big (volume) bat = big power idea is a myth.
I joked about it with him at the Oval Test.
-
Superb shape on this bat and looks a really good option for those wanting a custom made bat. My team mate has two 700 quid GN scoops and whilst that's not something I would buy they are fantastic.
GN seem to have got back in the last couple of years some really meaty and good looking bats. That's great to see as some of us grew up with the brand.

its a custom made bat, The bat was made to how I wanted it. Alex asked if I wanted it to go through a bat guage, and the answer was no. Ironically I can’t even get the shoulders through the guage. If I wanted it to be lighter then I would of have to sacrificed the spine height and volume in the area I wanted the most volume.

cheers James. Yes I wanted to keep it as minimalistic as possible.

there wasn’t any scoops, but There are some huge dynadrives that are in a pile which I think Alex is going to take with him around the country to sell when he does the road show

Might just be to old to turn pro 😂.
That’s my biggest regret, not striking a deal for the broken cleft. Hopefully it’s still available. Alex let me know 🤞🤞

A real beauty.

As in the bat is too wide, or has shoulders bigger than 47mm?

Tedious day in office today so cheered myself up by watched the YouTube vid. Great to see the process and Alex doing his thing, those blades must be seriously sharp.
Also very interesting to hear the comments on the trend amongst Pro’s for thin handles, wonder if that is also a reason why SK uses tape rather than bind, or if that is purely just weight saving?
@Six Sixes Cricket how does this one feel compared against your other bats, especially the big (SK?) Warner you have?
-
@Chalkie
Other current trend is the square toe as well.
Haven’t used the sk Warner bat, but comparing by mallet/ball response between the two, this is better. I’m definitely looking forward to the season starting
-
Lovely shape, as nice as I've seen for a while.
-
thanks for posting vid. messy workshop, slick bat :)
-
Great video - thanks for sharing.
Interesting to hear him say that the bat started out with a flat blade, and the bow was pressed in. It looks like there's about a 10mm bow, and that would mean a lot more pressing on the meat vs very little on the shoulders and toe! Very different to GM, who according to their videos, machine the bow, then press it all the same.
-
lovely stick that! really enjoyed the video too i caught it a while back
-
Awesome stick that one buddy. Cool video as well. Thanks for sharing.
-
Thanks for sharing, great piece of willow and shape, best of luck with it
-
@Six Sixes Cricket how is this bat coming along mate?
-
Knocked in ready to go, just need to get to nets or it will be straight in first game of the season
-
Used fair amount of pomade!! #HairLookAmazing
Cheers!!

Cheers!!
The MCC members made in China comment made me smile

Interested to know what this bat is like in its current state? Review on the bat so far?

Well it/I only had 1 game in 2020, but was used in all my games in 2019. So full of cherry’s on the front and sides

Any chance of a picture? Big specs on that bat
