Depends what ur budget is I guess, being a customer bats forum lots of the smaller brands offer Softs that imo are equal too or better than those from the big brands.

Worth the money mate
Definitely! I will not be using any other pads or gloves again. I bought them 2 years ago and love them so much that I picked additional pair of them. I have also let my friends use them and even they noticed how light and good they really are.

The Ayrtek softs are fantastic. Wouldn’t use anything else, when you add in that you can customise them for less that the top pads and gloves of the big companies it’s a no brainer

Are the GMs that much heavier?

Ordered last year's Originals and they were one of the lighter pads going by the 2018 pdf catalogue.

Not had a chance to see them as got them delivered to work and I've been working from home lately. Looking forward to comparing them to my BAS players which I've liked.

@DorsetDan I have recently received my custom Ayrtek pads but have used my previous green softs for 2 seasons, since they were released. They’re the reason I decided to go custom really. Couldn’t fault them at all!! I got another set of the gloves at the end of the first season just incase. Add to that the ease of dealing with Tom. I will spend my money all day long with someone who will message you out of the blue asking how you’re getting on or how you are finding the kit over a big faceless brand. It makes a difference

Having used all of the big brands softs over the years personally I would rule out Kook as just not on the same chart as the other big brands personally in quality or comfort. Both GM and GN offer superb protection, style and fit and have been my chosen softs for the last 3 seasons.
However by no means the most expensive but certainly right up there in terms of comfort, protection, light weight and fairly wallet friendly is the Adidas softs. I have the 2.0 pads and elite gloves and at £110 for both take some serious beating. In addition they are traditional style and minimal look which I prefer.

From forum brands one set of softs I still have as use for nets on occasion is Red Ink, picked up in a sale 2/3 seasons ago and they are excellent in terms of fit and value. If you have no budget the choice is excellent.
Final nudge is Salix softs always quality in all aspects

IMO I wouldn't go near GN as their pittards are useless even if you sweat an ounce.

I have used Kooka and their pretty average.

When it comes to durable long lasting soft gloves I can't look beyond NB. So try Protos sifts (Super test) as they're the same as the DC 1080 only half the price. Or if you have the cash then 2017 DC 1080s or 2019 Burn are amazing.

Yeah very good point. I never normally like to use big brands stuff as like you said you can get better value for money using the smaller brands. Last few seasons I have used hell 4 leather pads and Chase. Salix is a good shout there stuff is always top. Anyone used Kelley or Salix pads ?

Neon cricket softs are class mate. Gloves are some of the best I've used in terms of comfort and protection. The pads are great too, especially now they have a gel knee roll and the like.

Well, I hve 4 sets of "match" softs currently.

1. H4L Custom softs
2. GN Prestige
3. Kookaburra Ghost Pro
4. GN Powerbow 6

All of these softs are confortable and look (and feel) great IMO.

I mainly used the GN Prestige last season as I was using a GN XXX11 bat - so wanted to be same brand without being a total FKW.
Have always loved Kook softs as they feel really comfy.
And the Power 6 look and feel light and great too.
Weight of pads doesn't bother me too much - most feel around the same weight when wearing them. Plus I do quite a bit of running and am not lightweight, so 1oz here or there on my frame doesn't bother me the way it does with some.
If I had to get rid of 3 sets of the 4, and just keep 1? I would probably keep the H4L! Why? Because they are classy but plain and therefore I can use any bat with them and not clash  ;)

What are the prestige pads like compared to Legends? I didn't really get on with the Legends in the end, although first impressions were good. I'm trying last years GM originals next year but do wonder f I should have given the Prestiges a go.

Surprisingly most people will recommend whatever they recently spent a lot of money on ;)

Where are you? UK? Nothing beats trying a load on as the different brands have different quirks and what one person may love you may hate.

In terms of pads, I can't stand bulky knee rolls (so that UK GN pads out), can't stand tall top hats (so that's UK Kook out, wonky UK GN ones are weird too), don't want something too heavy (that's GM out)... so that pretty much leaves the SS style (New Balance, Uzi Sports, TON, etc) or Robinsons style (lots of the smaller brands). The quality finishing of the latter is much better but I seem to gel better with the former. Quite a lot of generalisation there but it gives a rough idea.

For gloves I want the best protection and fit and have gotten on better with palms that aren't Pittards (eg GN Prestige, BAS).

The more stuff I've tried the more picky I get :)

Or do what most people do and buy the one with the logo you like and be none the wiser :)

Any brands worth mentioning who are selling robinsons made softs and whats the diff between rs style and ss style

I haven't weighed them, but I'm guessing the Legends are ever so slightly lighter? Whilst offering protection against 90mph+ bowling? But as I am unlikely to need that level of protection, and the prestige stil offers great protection, I like them!
I am happy with the prestige and didn't feel any need to use any others last season! The gloves are snug to start with but them soften up and allow enough room after a while. I am just wearig in my second pair and my first pair are great now. I always have 2 pairs of gloves for each set of pads as my hands do get a little warm when netting indoors in particular!

I've asked a few guys who wear them when I umpire Last Man Stands. All say very light and good protection. They look good too. I'd be tempted for LMS and T20 games, but I play neither,  sadly!

Have the morrant international pads. They are fantastic, very light, very good protection and very comfortable.  The only criticism is that everything sticks to them. Also have some 2 strap MRF pads. They are far bulkier and cheaper feeling. I use them for nets.

I have used these for a number of years now and they are ahead of everything else in terms of comfort, flexibility and protection.  I try other brands from time to time to check that there isn't something better now on the market but these are still the market leader for me

Sorry @SD I have to disagree. While the legends are indeed lovely pads and gloves I do think they are no better than plenty of other brands on the market... My SS test openers were just as nice in terms of protection and comfor as the Legends and I believe the BB Moderns are more comfortable/offer the same protection.

I know it's each to their own but I personally don't believe the legends are all they are cracked up to be.

I think as you say, there is an element of personal preference as to what kit works for you.  For example, the diamond style pittards on the Legend gloves are - speaking as someone with very sweaty palms - the best I have come across.  When combined with the fit, flexibility, weight and comfort, these are way our in front of anything I have tried.  I would tend to agree that there is less between the different pads on the market, but if buying as a set, I haven't come across anything that is.comparable to the Legend softs.

The one thing I would say about pads irrespective of anything else, is that i don't like wearing any pads where the straps are so long you have to double up part of the straps.  The Legends are perfect for me whereas the likes of BB and Newberry I have found are too long.  I also don't like the asethtics of the BB pads but obviously that is entirely subjective and also a personal thing as to whether looks make any difference to you

Thanks for you’re opinions guys . I’m torn between legends now keeley Salix and blank bats . Still got a lot on reading up on them and try pick one  :D
