Title: Trott Low density
Post by: liscon12 on December 18, 2018, 03:56:58 PM
So Rich at B3 has sent me over these pics, bat is being made as we speak. To remind you guys, this is a Grade 2 cleft at a density of 352 in the cdx 21.1 shape aka 1271

Yeah I've already bought this

That is looking incredible! Should be one heck of a custom made bargain :)

Any adjustments to the standard shape or size? What weight are you hoping it will come out at?

It's just the standard shape, no alterations to get it down to a useable weight. With the cleft density it should come out at 2lb10oz, which is perfect for me

Superb. Do post pics of the final finished bat. Definetly a beast in its own right.

I have been thinking about a new bat for a while now. This is now top that list! Absolutely quality piece of willow and brilliant size for 2.10.

Great work to get it down to that weight. I spoke to @Butterfingerz yesterday and he couldn't have been more helpful. Excellent customer service at B3.

I’d love a crown but have got so many bats already that don’t get used I can’t really justify it. Not that it will stop me really

Really interested to see this having waved around one of Trotts ‘NB’ bats and used a G.Smith Epic which is similar

Is the handle set up like this on this shape & model (a bit forward set)?

(https://i.ibb.co/JshT3Vv/IMG-20190103-130359.jpg) (https://ibb.co/mcxKNk9)
Is this alright?! Please don't misunderstand my question, this is the first time I have seen something like this. But it is a lovely profile.

I think the handle isn't set massively forward, just standard to be honest.

With regards to the back of the bat, I believe that this is due to the amount of wood in the shoulders, they are unable to remove some of the cane. Yes it does look odd but I have no issues with it.

Looks a top bat. Is it 2’10? I think mine put on an ounce since i bought it.

The back of the handle is the same on mine but i had the forward set handle. This together with chad’s profile are my joint favourite.

Think mine may end up as my match bat this year.

I hadn’t been particularly keen on the Trott shape before, but seeing this has changed my mind! Looks like a beast! Shoulders worthy of World’s Strongest Man!

Looks a lovely bat, but I’d much rather have that shoulder wood nearer the middle.

Have found bats with lots of wood towards the handle have a little more of a clunky feel to them, probs due to added stiffness at the join. Looks a lovely bat, hope you score.many runs with it!

No update as of yet, winter nets for me hasn't started yet as we have them on the run up to the season starting in May.

But it has been knocked in and oiled and it does sound good however tapping up with a mallet isn't the same as actually hitting balls

Net Session One:

First net with the trott shape, fair to say I'm definitely impressed!

Shots sound way better while my straight drives were rocketing off the face. The coverage is just perfect for me, because it was my first net I wasn't seeing the ball well all I was hitting all parts of the bat but that didn't matter.

I was concious about the weight as it has gained a 1-2oz since oiling, knocking, scuff and shoe goo but because there is a lot of wood high up it doesnt matter, it still feels really balanced.

I can't claim to be a competent batsman's, so maybe shapes which have more wood in the hitting area would be better for guys who can consistently hit in that area. But for all I want is something that will give me the best value for my shots, no matter how bad they are.

I will keep updating this post as I continue to play with it.

Looks great - very jealous. But 1-2lb must be some seriously heavy oil/scuff/toe-goo...

@Butterfingerz what is the threshold for a low density 2 stripe becoming classed as a “Pro”? This one is a 352... is it not a pro technically or does the density have to be under 350?

Pro Grades are not defined by their density, may you mean Crown? In this case although the density was very low the grading of the cleft was not high enough to be a Crown and was therefor a 2 stripe.

Before I'm inundated with requests now for LD 2 stripes...we don't have any I'm afraid
