Title: Kookaburra Ghost Repair
Post by: WABH-J on December 20, 2018, 05:30:22 PM
Evening all,

My Kookaburra Ghost requires a clean up and since it was only a cheap one I thought I'd do it myself. Having removed the scuff sheet I'm slightly concerned about some of the cracks along the edge. I'm assuming the best way to deal with these will be to try and get PVA under neath them and then sand it all down and apply a hammer edge sheet but I was wondering if anybody thought I should be trying to steam them out and if so what method would they be using.

Anyway have a look at the pics and let me know what you think!

Steaming will help bring out any dents but they don’t look too bad to me. The cracks are superficial so a bit of glue, sand and tape will work well. I know some people who would use superglue for the edge cracks rather than PVA. Personally I wouldn’t though just from personal preference.hammer edge tape hides a multitude of sins, add a few cherries and you won’t see any damage.
Tip - don’t glue then steam as the steam will dissolve the PVA

I think this is the best solution for the cracks on your bat.. not deep enough to glue and clamp, so i'd suggest this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-AvpPmsdkg&index=16&list=PLNO2X_MEvesa3pjh2IKm18kHwZvzCf-UU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-AvpPmsdkg&index=16&list=PLNO2X_MEvesa3pjh2IKm18kHwZvzCf-UU)

Thank you both - very helpful!

In the end I got impatient and decided I was going to have a crack with PVA but when I got down to it they really weren't significant enough to warrant it and they weren't deep enough to get the glue under the crack without doing more damage.

She cleaned up ok but the cracks are in such an irritating place! Have ordered some more stickers though and that should hide the worst of it as it's mostly cosmetic. It looks a lot neater in the flesh than it does in the pictures but here they are anyway!

Surface cracks.  If you're concerned force some runny super glue in and sand down with 120 or higher sand paper once dry.
