If you haven't had the chance to watch the interviews on BT below are the links to the full transcripts of them. Bancroft properly throws Warner under the bus!

This is from a nation that has just fulfilled a Facebook campaign to boo Mitchell March at Melbourne purely for the crime of being selected
Strange morals in that country
-
Lost any remaining sympathy and respect for Bancroft after that.
-
Why
-
All that nonsense about him having been in the same position if he’d said no to Warner.
An adult and pro sportsman shouldn’t have to use the bigger boys did it excuse.
"But the really, really interesting thing...I've asked myself this question a lot. If I had said 'no', what would that have meant? And the thing that I've inquired and thought about so often is that if I actually said 'no', and I went to bed that night, I had the exact same problem. I had some the problem that I had using the sandpaper on the cricket ball”
-
This is all just PR BS yet again. They all knew what was going on and had enough chances to say no. They didn’t. There are no excuses for cheating other than you want to.
This is just a PR exercise by Cricket Australia to get them all accepted by the masses. Warner will keep quiet and serve his time, say sorry and come back in for the ashes.
Sadly, half of people will happily let them get away with this stuff and the sad reality is, they don’t care, don’t think they’ve done anything that wrong, won’t acceot any responsibility and will do it or at least know their teams are doing it again.
That is the real shame in all this.. this hasn’t stopped teams doing it and won’t stop these players doing it again
-
I don’t care if Warner threatened him you don’t throw someone under the bus. He should have just said he chose do it and that is that. Only person I have sympathy for is Steve smith he didn’t plan it, but he shouldn’t have looked the other way.
-

How?
-
How?
Because he’s trying to say it’s Warner’s fault. He told him and had a choice, if he wanted to do it and chose to do it. Now he needs to accept take responsibility without trying to deflect.
-
Whether we believe Bancroft or not it is an interesting interview.
What really concerns me is the fact that they lied on multiple occasions about the incident yet are being portrayed as having come clean, which they only did when they literally had no choice.
Bancroft effectively lied by trying to hide the sandpaper down his trousers when it was pointed out to him that he had been seen using it and with it in his pocket. He then tried to tell the umpires it was his sunglasses cloth (or at least that is what it looks like on film). And finally they tell the media and world at large that it was tape rather than sandpaper (and yes, Cameron, you are right that either way you took it on the field with the intent to tamper with the ball so why lie about it again).
Personally I think they all got off lightly (although weirdly I would like to see them all play again at some point as I think everyone deserves a second chance). It may well be the case that others do it, but like all things, if you break the rules and get caught you have to face the consequences and these should be significant enough to act as a punishment and a deterrent.

Be good to see Bancroft and Smith again
For some reason Warner is just a nasty guy even before this event happened so don't wanna see him again .

Yes, the whole Nation, all 25 million, signed up to that Facebook page and they all showed up and booed him. I too enjoy assuming the worst about a large group of people because of the actions of a minute few.
Warner Sealed his own fate by not standing up with his brothers and facing all the heat that came with what they did, Smith and Bancroft have in part (PR bs or not) come out and claimed their responsibilities in regards to what happened, where has David Warner been? In reality nobody actually knows what really happened but I suspect if the things that Smith and Bancroft had been claiming about Warner and the events of that day were untrue, then Warner would have launched some sort of legal action or made his story known.

My opinion isnt just based on this booing incident.
But why anyone would want to pay to go to a cricket match and then boo someone representing the country they support is baffling. Not sure what Marshes crime is really. Be interesting to see what reaction the sandpaper cheats get
-
Smith and Bancroft have thrown warner under the bus recently but I guess when you’ve done what warner has done it was always going to happen. It begs the question just how many more times had this happened? Seems more and more an unlikely one off, particularly with suspicions before this game
I wonder whether the Aussie public will warm to Warner from this, does the Aussie mentality (especially in sport) rank cheaters higher than a grass?
-
Bancroft is a fully grown man in his mid20s. I am not sure his "David told me to do it" excuse brings much credit on him at all.
-
Bancroft is not very bright, that's obvious from the interviews but let's not forget ii was Warner doing the chucking in the first place getting a newbie player who looks like he would agree to anything to 'not let the team down' to do the dirty work he would not do himself.
What comes across is Smith was a weak captain and Warner could basically do what he wanted as all powerful senior pro.
So these interviews probably make it less likely to return with Paine now captain.
What I cannot fathom myself is how the actual bowlers have not been nailed in this too. Have they accepted they didn't know what was going on?
If so they may have dodged a bullet!
-
Agree entirely with this. The bowlers would have been fully aware that the ball was reversing far too soon and that the condition of the ball was deteriorating on one side far too quickly even if they weren't aware which one of the batsman was doing it
-
A journalist who was interviewed on the Grade Cricketer implied it was the first time they had been caught rather than the first time it had happened. The South African media had been told to aim their cameras at Warner based on existing rumours and when that was picked up in the Australian camp they found someone else to do it for them who evidently was less subtle ......
For the record, that was his understanding rather than fact.
I guess this sort of stuff happens more often than we would like to know about.
-
And Warner has been wearing these hand wraps for years. Im not prepared to believe they were for anything other than hiding materials to change the condition of the ball. Has any other player in history needed to wear hand wraps every single time they've fielded?
-
Totally agree about the bowlers, somehow feel that through CA not asking to many questions and the public and everyone else just jumping on the caught 3 that the bowlers have got away with this in a huge way. Club cricket players pay loads of attention the the ball and look after it so Pro bowlers in a huge test match would have been all over the balls condition.
As for the interviews, a nice guy like Gilly was never going to let them have it or really get to the root cause of the questions was he! As has been said the “ I just want to be liked” excuse is a total joke, he would have kept his place and been respected if he scored runs at the top of the order and gave his all for the baggy green that means so much to all Aussie cricketers.
Should they play international cricket again? No. Will they, most likely
-
Poor Smith! All that talent and he is sitting on his couch.
-
People forgave Amir for spot fixing, nobody cared about faf..twice, and we look up to the great reverse swing bowlers of all time as if nothing untoward could have been going on. we wouldn't even be talking about it now if they only served the ICC one game ban.
What they did was wrong, there is no denying that and no justification for it, but it was a mistake and they have paid for it literally and figuratively, I feel like just because it was Australians who got caught we've lost all perspective on the fact that it was just a few lads trying to win a game the wrong way. Nobody was killed or hurt, they didn't steal from anyone..they cheated at a game to try and win. Life goes On.
-
^ I agree. Once their ban is over, they should be allowed to play and move on with their careers.
More to life than this and life does indeed go on.
-
This whole conversation is very boring now.
How long do people need to harp on about how it's disgusting etc etc.
It's professional sport. Cheating happens. End of. 95% of riders in the tour de France are doping, 5 out of 8 runners in Ben Johnsons race were doping, I men Russia had a state sponsored doping program for god sake. The long and short of it is; every test nation has had someone done for ball tampering. Get over it now. Yes what they did was wrong, but people calling for their careers to be over etc are ridiculous.
Warner was the mastermind, Bancroft is an idiot (clearly from his interview) and Smith was too weak to stop it. Ultimately I'm pretty sure everyone at some point in their lives has cheated and unfortunately for these three guys they got caught.

If it’s ‘just a game’ why cheat/sledge anyway ? I thought Cricket was a battle ?? Mans game... one where you can say anything in the name of winning etc etc
Not everyone has forgave amir at all either, there will be plenty who remember and still think of him as a cheat. Not everyone is blinkered by win at all costs.
Winning is great but winning the right way .. not winning at all costs (Cheating, verbals, gamesmanship Etc) . Just play cricket and whoever is best on that day will win.. generally over a long period the best team will come out on top anyway all things being equal (like not playing all your games at home India etc)

The higher level you play, the more important winning at all costs becomes. Simple. At the top level of the game there are millions and millions of pounds invested. Just like the Olympics, just like the tour de France, just like Wimbledon, every single sport at the top level has cheating, and it's prevalent. I know if I was being paid a million pounds a year plus sponsorship plus bonuses and someone at the top said we need x amount of wins a season I'd be thinking about what edge I can get.

Hence the need for genuine harsh punishments and vigorously enforcing. That makes it risky to take such actions. This all comes about now as the game is soft on cheating as this thread shows . People are happy to see it and forgive it. If that cha fed it would still happen but rarely and they’d be genuine career ending repercussions
Irrespective all three are still
Earning the bucks as will be back so it’s mute. Some will welcome them and some won’t and that’s now how their careers will be defined. Not that they will
Care one bit

I can see Smith playing for Australia again, probably Bancroft but have a feeling that Warner might end up similar to KP. I suspect he’ll return but at some point will go off round the world to make money, write a book telling his side of the story and play the pantomime villain of Australia cricket like KP was to English cricket
-
Cricket Australia have come out and said they want to reintergrate Warner back in the side. Can’t see Bancroft playing for Australia for a while if warner is in that side given his comments.
A few former players also digging into Bancroft.
All a bit of a farce with these interviews coming out and over shadowing the test match
-
There's a possibility that captain Paine doesn't want someone like Warner back in the fold. Yes Warner's the second best batsman in Australia but he's a prized bell***. He's essentially everything Paine's trying to eradicate from the Australian cricket team. Paine may well have spoken to Smith and Bancroft, potentially suggesting the bury Warner. Naturally Bancroft has to tie the line of the captain and Smith probably has more leeway as he's a superstar batsman. But there are the rumours that Smith genuinely despises Warner. Some times you have to cut out the cancer to ensure the future is better.
-
I struggle to see how a bloke like Warner gets back in the side with this new culture that Cricket Australia are trying their best to put together. As already mentioned by Geoff Lemon on The Grade Cricketer, I'd expect him to drop many a bombshell on other players if CA decide his international career is over...
-
^ It is quite simple actually: he has to behave! That is it.
I like the new Aus skipper, he is doing his best under very challenging circumstances. Should Warner be lucky enough to play under this new "skip", he better be supportive of the skipper and the new team culture!
-
Given the batting woes of the Australian team a pragmatic decision will be made to pick all three, especially given their bans were disproportionate.
This narrative that it was all Warner's fault is ridiculous. So is the notion the bowlers didn't know too.
