Title: How many grips?
Post by: KW9221 on January 05, 2019, 03:27:26 AM
I was wondering how many grips do you use on your bat? I personally was using two grips on each bat but decided to use 3 grips and my bat has a better pick up and absolutely no vibration at all.

How many grips do you prefer on your bat and why?

I use 1/2 grip on the bottom and 01 full on top of that. I prefer the thicker feel on the bottom of the handle.

One because I feel like any more over complicates things. Also like to feel the bat in the hand and I wear inners, so anymore and I'd lose that feeling.

I go with the feel of bat. According to feel I apply two grips or one grip with tape. I keep changing until i get right feel.

I use a single GM Dynamic grip on all my bats

Depends on the bat, GM a single grip,  a Keeley and out comes the medical tape, the grip off cut box, and much fiddling ensues

Used to have 1 and half grips with chevron as the outer grip.

Trying GM terrain grips on all bats this year. Also finally bought some 3M white vinyl electrical tape for grips. Used to use any generic tape but this stuff seems much better...

One thin chevron and a ripple grip for my H4L and my SS!

On my 2010 Salix Fera, just the 1 Salix Spiral grip which is very thick. On my 2018 Keeley, one thin, plain underneath one Salix Spiral grip as the Keeley's handle was thinner than my Salix.

It's true what they say - a bat can feel like a totally new one by changing its grip(s)!

We’re did you pick up the electrical tape. I tried using muscle tape and a tennis grip but doesn’t have the right feel.

I have 2 and a half bindings and then 3 grips on match bat, but different amounts on different makes
Tried the trend of having only 1 grip to promote extra bat speed.
Surely it's what suits everyone ??? (and each bat?)

Must've missed this, why would one grip make your swing faster?

It's been a trend over the last 8 / 10 months, the idea is you will create quicker bat speed.
All rubbish in my opinion, surely a bat/handle/grips etc is like finding your ideal partner (beauty is in the eye of the beholder)
Also it's surely what works for each of us ????

Technically, doesnt more grips improve the overall pickup by shifting the weight balance upwards?

Definitely did exactly for me but again I have to experiment with different setups

I’d argue over probably at least five year handles in general have got thinner, weight reduction to get the bigger edges and spine heights?

But correct that there is more than one way to skin a cat. Billings, Buttler and Galye probably all have very different bat styles and grip set ups. All three can hit a 100m six with ease... it’s not wrong it’s just different.
