Title: Forum regional matches
Post by: Talisman on February 18, 2010, 09:25:48 PM
What do people think to dividing up the country into regions and having a few inter region matches made up of pure forum member teams this coming season?

We could have South West, South East, Midlands & North as a starter, maybe a few Jazz Hat matches during the week and a 20/20 tournament on a Bank Holiday Sunday?

Your thoughts?

Looks like you better see if you can form teams and see if they will travel.

I know there is no way we can include everyone due to geography but if possible worth looking at.

The principal sounds good,  i would say just stick to a 20/20 tournament! Would be class though

Sounds like a good plan mate if the forum 6's tournament never gets arranged! Tied up at weekends once the season  starts though but dont really play much 20/20 as its only friendly stuff at our club bar the cup matches....Think there may be a tough selection process to get in the SW side with all the Somerset lot on here!

That's alright - Mongoose, SAFFY, Talisman, Ayrtek, Hell4Leather, Redback & Kicking Horse - they'd all sponsor it.

In fact that is the way to go, forum members who make kit can take out sponsorship of teams and pitch up with a trade stand for the day, 44 compulsive buyers guaranteed plus likely to get many more coming to watch.

I know the ground, has the road to Fleet running round the outside if it's the one I'm thinking of.

Post by: Watsontotty on February 18, 2010, 09:37:48 PM
I'm up for it if its over a bank holiday weekend or something like that, id be heading down from Newcastle and could fit another 4 plus all the kit in if people want a lift down as long as its more or less on the way.
Title: Re: Forum regional matches
Post by: anthonyant on February 18, 2010, 09:39:25 PM
and a ground i could sort one out at Aldershot if people were truely up for it 2 pitches there as well next to each other

Dont think theres enough of our northeners to propose it to be held there! I would suggest somewhere in Gloucester (excuse spelling)

Cider mate its the real stuff down here!

Yeah im sure there is a range of standards on the forum so people would have to be honest about their ability in order to get some decent matches as otherwise may end up in some short, sharp games!

4 up sharing a room in a Travelodge - £12 each for a night - sounds like a plan.

I could probably get a pitch at my club? Hosted two 4 day middlesex games, a 20/20 and a pro40 last year. (There is the main square and also a secondary square down the bottom end of the club which would allow two matches to take place)
Ground is at the end of the Met and the Picadilly lines...

However, I'm not sure we're ready for a county ground yet - perhaps just minor counties :)

definately..... it's all coming together. Anyone know any minted fella's who will buy the said franchises? I reckon about minimum £2000 a team should do it, pay for players shirts and beer for the day.

You reckon that rich fella from Man City would be keen? He is after an IPL franchise, maybe we should break him into the world of franchise 20/20 cricket.

We have plenty of time to sort this, lets have a manager for each area put themselves forward and then we can get a better idea of numbers. I'll work on the ground, think Norb's area would suit best for all and then we can find free dates and firm up the plan.

As for the invitation match against Procricket I'll start a new thread for that one.

This is a cracking idea - haven't read the whole thread (jeez, it got big quick!) - but I'm happy to put myself forward for the Northern XI

Seems there is an abundance of South West cricketers in this ere thread....I'd love to play but i'm wondering how the selection process will work....will cash or cakes have to change hands in order to guarantee a place on the team? ; ]

I'm happy to join the Northern XI (even though I'm really east mids!) and will put myself forward to manage if required.

20/20 could mean quite a journey for some and not much cricket.50 overs might be a bit fairer, most people would be more likely to get a proper game even if teams play to win?
