stopped doing it really, the guys that are honest still get a fair deal, but i've had too many people take 4/5 years to pay me for kit - then to hear they have gone out and spent £300 quid on a bat, when they were quibbling about £50 for one off of me - sounds nasty but i took great pleasure in taking one back off of one bloke at my club - refurbing it and then selling on ebay (selling for more than he would pay for it after his 'i want to try it period') - then watching him break his new one - felt sorry for the bat - but not the (No Swearing Please) bloke that he is!!!

2011 - GN Ignite Pro Performance to a then 17 yr old as his parents were poor so he had a cheap bit of willow but is a fantastic player. Felt he deserved a good bat
2012 - 1 x top end kahuna to the same kid as 2011, 1 x kahuna 500 to an older guy who is a bowler but hadn’t had a new bat for about 14 years.
2013 - went to a young lad at the club
2014 - went to a bowler for a few pints. Absolute weapon still and he loves it
2015 - went to a young lad who as 2011.. is from a poor family so always used club kit. Gave him some pads and gloves too
2016 - gave it to our  spinner who can’t justify spending on a bat when he barely bats. Gave him it for the return of him bowling for a fair few hours at me
2017 - still got them as back ups
2018 - still to them as back ups
2019 - 3 new ones will be made in about 2 weeks when I take a group up and I get mine done.

Thought a few times I was retiring 🙂gave away slazenger v800, gm diamond, surridges jumbo light weight, and the rest of the kit.
Few other really good bats to the ones who asked,
Think we should stop giving away, it's better take a little amount and give that to a charity, this might even feel better 😀😀

Gave my old well used and loved ace away many moons ago
It lasted half a season before snapping clean in half,,, still one of all time favourite bats.
Given loads away over the years,,, last few years, since I’ve been making them, I’ve given loadsa jnr bats away to kids I thought would appreciate and use em. They are my karma bats
I’m not interested in money, and could never afford owt decent when I was younger, so it’s nice to be able to help a few now,,
And those that have had snr bats off me, know I make naff all on those too
Again Karma and a two finger salute to the shysters out there taking the pee

The same charities who pay outrageous wages ? Or whose members stay in nice hotels when away or have flash offices and many admin staff in high wages ??

Yeah not so much.. better to give it to people you know will appreciate the gesture or who simply couldn’t afford quality.

Lol. Shock. Competent people cost money. Would rather give money to a charity with an excellent, well paid, CEO, than any old average Joe on minimum wage.

In answer to the question, I've given away a fair amount of kit as I've outgrown it - Junior kit costs a fair bit brand new and re-sale it's just not worth it. The kids usually appreciate it. I sent about 20 bats back to my old school, as they were still using awful old Open Championship bats and Fearnley's.

I work with a lot of people from India. One of their sons plays academy level and uses a kasmir willow and a g3/4 English willow bat. I took him in one of my sons Kudos sps grade bats that he has grown out of that I I did a full refurb on. I thought the dad was going to burst into tears and his son is now longing even more for dad to return home.

I gave a plain kookaburra rogue away tonight, to a teammate who snapped his bat at nets a couple of weeks ago.
