Went to nets with some friends last week. Fast bowler there gave me a real working over. Seemed to be punching the drives with the bottom hand too much so couldnt adjust with the swing. Any flaws ect you see please let me know! Sorry about the shabby nets..they were the only ones we could find for tenner an hour!;p Heres the video!

it look like you hip is rotating round so your back leg comes over then throwing your bat out so your bat doesn't come down straight and balance looks slightly wrong lots of movement after the the shot. apart from that you look a good player are they the pads???
if they are there looking good
-
if you can pick that its going to be outswing possibly just wait sligtly longer before you commit to the shot to give you a better chance of connecting. looks like you play before it starts swinging a few times so that could help. as procricket says you do look a good player though :)

For a tall guy, you seem to have a very small stride, whether thats how you usually play i don't know, subsequently any balls that you see as drivable are not really there to drive as you plant your front foot and don't really go far from there, there is also a tendency to walk after you have played your shot, meaning not enough weight and energy is transferred into the shot itself, get these things right and you will do absolutely fine.

thanks for the comments procricket and alex. altho didnt really get what you meant by "hip rotating round, back leg comes over". and nope they are powerbow tests. used the kooks this week:D

I am not sure you have much of a problem, when you play good shots you are looking at the ball longer - when you play and miss your eyes are dropping to where you think the ball is going to pitch, hence you are playing and missing at balls on the off stump as you are taking your eye off the ball.
When the balls are coming into you your eyes are remaining level and you are playing the ball later.
To correct this you should spend some time having balls bowled in the corridor at you, initially trying to leave them (unless they are going to bowl you) but all the time really watching the ball from the bowlers hand as it pitches, still getting you front foot in position as if you are trying to hit the ball.
After a while you will naturally start hitting the ball - but try to time it, rather than smack it, you will get more joy through the off-side that way. Playing the ball right under your eyes will allow you to play the ball later, which will also help

lol tall? Im short if anything at 5'9:p and yeah need to work on the stride...prolly didnt go that forward this net purely because i was very tentative..
-
I didn't think your stride was an issue - that will come with form and time in the middle (it is still Feb after all)

I think the point of good swing is that it is designed to make you play and miss, if you faced the bowler for 6 balls in a row time after time like a match then you would get a quicker feel for the movement and play it better sooner. Nothing to be too worried about apart from a hole in the mat on a short pitched length.....

thanks for the comments buzz. and yeh talisman that hole made all the long hops i bowled unplayable :D

Or hit your foot and make you fall over :D
Kaz - looking sturdy mate, i thought technically your looking quite strong considering it's the start of the net season - time in nets will get you used to away swing (i find it's always more exaggerated in indoor nets anyway) - good to see a video of forum members netting.

Haha maybe its just my poor eyesight.....

thanks for all the comments. also was wondering if i open up my stance a bit, so i'm in line with the angle the outswing comes at, will that help? id be playing squarer to the outswinging ball then i think. might be completely wrong tho!
-
you can do, but you may end up thinking too much about what you are doing, rather than just trusting your instinct. Your set up seems fine to me
-
Think the bowler was just bowling well to be honest, the extra bounce gained from the hard surface didnt make it any easier
-
you wont get bounce like that from a damp wicket in April/May!
-
To me it looks like your trying to hit the ball well to hard instead of getting your eye in a getting acustomed to the pitch
-
play the ball later, and stand deeper in the crease against swing
-
ah thanks for the tips. not really steep bounce..but uneven. also what i did here was the opposite..i stood like 2-3 feet outside the crease..
