Title: Looking for a top notch pro-level bat
Post by: WK_85 on March 28, 2019, 03:59:20 PM
I am looking for a pro-level bat ideally low-mid sweet spot and ideally suited for power hitting. Any advice or recommendations?

1. Tim Keeley bat in the shape of Newbery Blitz.
2. Tim Keeley bat in the shape preferred by Joe Root.

GM Noir OLE or players addition

H4L custom as he makes for Kent county plus a few associate nation International players.

Or by 5 GM signature bats for the same price as “pro blade” bat as doubt it will make any difference either way to how many runs you score. Or get a couple of custom made bats from any of the forum sponsors who all make great bats

Well I usually get my top notch bat from forum sponsors. @Butterfingerz or @Blank Bats should be able sort you out.

Get in touch with blank bats, I picked one up a week or so back. Best bat I've used without a doubt.

Get hold of a pro and try to buy his bat. May cost you a bit more and you may need some luck, but that will be an authentic "pro-level bat".

It's another story that you may not like the weight, balance, feel and pick-up because every person has a different muscle strength, and ligament flexibility.

Playing with Kohli's bat will not make you play like Kohli.

Where are you located @WK_85 ? It might be best to call round to see your local batmaker, get some advice and select a cleft that suits.

I can make something up to specs if you are interested. I’m not going to make some unjustified claims that I make for this pro or that pro but the bats are good and feedback has been positive. Plenty of reviews on here as a guide

Having had a bat that was destined for a pro.. my thoughts...

- All pros have different preferences and set ups
- you may end up with a nice looking bat.. but is the handle shape right for you? The pick up?
- the pro may have got it for a specific tour...
- some pros like heartwood... where some brands would grade such bats grade 2 or below..

Personally you are better of getting something custom to you... after all that is what a pro would do...

I'd never buy a pro bat again personally but I can see the allure..

A pro would also be physically different from even very good club player - weights, daily practise, diet. So could potentially handle a heavier bat.

Think you will find Hawk isn't the only place. No doubt Hawk make quality bats and pros do use their bats, but to say they are the only place...?

Jonny Bairstow must go through some bats!

Hunts County could probably make something remarkably similar to a Newbery Legacy, at half the price or less.

I've heard the same from a bat maker. The cricketers now are much stronger and fitter, happily have 2.10 +  lb bats and not necessarily ultra light bats. Seen more than a few interviews where bat pickup is preferred over dead weight.

PS I'm still impressed with the way the ping ball back to the keeper when fielding, whereas I'd get a sore shoulder with a weak throw :D

I would say that the amateur form the 90s used a far heavier bat than the overwhelming majority of pros do today.  These days the focus seems to be on bat speed
Title: Re: Looking for a top notch pro-level bat
Post by: InternalTraining on May 17, 2019, 02:34:43 PM
I don't know the bat weight used by Bairstow or Jason Roy. I guess it is 2-10 to 2-11. BUT, and this is a big but, both Roy and Bairstow are fitter, stronger, and bigger than an average clubbie. Proportionally, and by that I mean strength wise, Roy and Bairstow are also using lighter bats. Same for J Butler. Let me clarify, for their fitness and strength level, a 2-10/2-11 bat is light hence the whippy bat speed.

I look at Bairstow's shots and I wonder how he is generating all that power! His shot is a short arm slap and no follow thru as in NO full-blooded swing. Things that make you go 'hmmmm'.

Ok. Are you better or as good as Butler, Roy, and Bairstow? Got any videos discussing modern batting technique and power hitting? Info on technique?

So, you are an up and coming cricket phenom. Good for you.

Back to my original question: modern batting technique.

What's up with the off-stump guard?
What's the mindset behind the off stump guard and your area of operation? The way I see it, you play in the area one yard outside the popping crease and few inches outside off stump to a:) avoid lbw; b:) pick off balls in the channel.

How to develop that power hitting short arm jab so beautifully deployed by Bairstow?
How to find the right bat weight for your body size and strength level?
What's the full body workout routine to develop that kind of power displayed by Butler and co.?

That's not very helpful,  is it.

You are a big, strong dude but you can't talk about techniques that a clubbie can use to improve.

You average 25 in your first team after a few season, with no league tons, which suggests a certain good level, but not quite as amazing as you make out.
If you scored 353 today that is truly exceptional. Congratulations, that will be a lifetime best and almost certainly will be the highest score made in club cricket this summer across all matches.
