Title: Indy batwatch 2019
Post by: Mattsky on April 05, 2019, 03:53:10 PM
Thought it might be nice to feature bats we've spotted from independent boutique podshavers in the hands of some pros.

So kicking off the County season, Hampshire's Sam Northeast seems to be enjoying the runs his Keeley Worx is already bringing him...

Think Keeley may not be quite so boutique as many players will use TK stuff... was Newbery seen as boutique when TK made bats for them?

Between us, we probably know what we are going to see, don't we? Half a dozen B3s, some Kippaxes at Yorkshire and elsewhere,  H4Ls at Kent, a couple of Bears (Will Rhodes and Johnny Tattersall)... Lewis Hill with Hunts County at Leics., Adam Rouse wirh Chase...

He's using a Keeley in the game as well. Interesting as he just singed for MB a few weeks ago - https://www.instagram.com/p/BvU9KhkB0S1/. (https://www.instagram.com/p/BvU9KhkB0S1/.)

Stevens was with Keeley last season, though think he's been using their bats a while. Salix have never sponsored players, last I remember was Sam Northeast when he first started at Kent - Tammy Beaumont is the only higher profile cricketer I've seen using one.

Yes, I realised I was late on the news when I looked on the Instagram. I did watch Kent at least once last year too.

Is Ravi officially with Keeley now?  He batted very well, apparently.

Also, I see forum favourite Gary Ballance got a hundred with his trusty, I mean new, Kippax.

Yes, he was. He was rumoured to have had 50+ bats off them one year.

Not sure there is anyone in the Essex team with them now.

Mark Cosgrove is with Newbery, it seems. Another Spartan refugee?  I remember  him using Redback when he first came to UK and there was a bit of a buzz about that brand.

Also on Newbery's Instagram is a video of Paul Horton's bat being made.  I recognise the batmaker! I wonder if he does all their pro issues?

Still like warsop. Got a Merlin a few seasons back. Great bat.

I wonder how the pros get on with Paul's bats.

Quite a few smaller company sponsors in the Glos squads, nothing genuinely interesting though I don't think.

It’s a shame that, since getting a bit more press as captain, Mullaney has moved over to G&M. I always thought that was a nice partnership. I missed TKC batting yesterday (as did anyone else who was 5 minutes late to Trent Bridge) but I assume that he’s still with B3?

I saw David Weisse's being stickered up before his 92 not out against Surrey.  I think I posted this on another thread.

It's not really Newbery's centenary, is it? Len Newbery may have started making bats a hundred years ago, but the brand was born in the 1980s.
