Good to see Hameed back in the runs, albeit against a Uni side but I really hope he is back on track to find the form that got him selected for England again. His double hundred is more than he managed last season I believe
-
Yes hopefully it was a blip. After that finger injury he was never the same. He has age on his side..
Probably psychological... with him being so young... hopefully he can sort it out...
-
What sort of standard is uni cricket in comparison to league cricket? I’d imagine a league or two lower than minor counties

Possibly even lower...?
But a double century is a double century and hopefully help him no end.
-
Most if not all of that Loughborough team will have played minor counties or county 2nd team cricket
-
Loughborough are a far better side than a minor county. Around County 2ndXI standard
-
Let’s not big up 2xi cricket too much.. glos are dire and they have just played a kid who is utter tripe and a spinner in 1xi stuff who is also tripe.
Just treat it for what it is, a beat up game vs lesser oppos but for hammed.. it is at least some runs.. he is the only player we have who looos even remotely like a capable top 3 bat for England, so let’s pray he continues with some form
-
Good confidence building exercise, even if the oppo weren’t the strongest. Build him back up slowly
-
I dint get this it's only against students line, you still have to get them! No one else got past 60 odd
Yes it's not an international bowling attack but how many times jave we played below our level and failed!
-
Hameed with a Ton today, what a great time for him to find form again with a super summer ahead, if he can string a few scores together could be an inclusion into the Ashes squad and would hopefully give a player to allow our stroke players to build an innings around. And before people say anything scored against a decent bowling attack in Finn, TRJ and Murtagh
-
Very good seam bowling attack on display for Middlesex to hit a ton against. Hopefully gives him the confidence he needs for a strong summer
-
Anyone else notice the dodgy sticker job on his bat today, the pictures on the bbc county championship feed just before his ton, he's been sponsored by GN long enough that he should know which way round the stickers go.

Is GN spelt correctly? May have fallen for a fake off ebay

Best news this season already Hameed has hit some form. Agree with others he needs a good season this year before getting back into International games, he's not in the one day teams so CC games are a bit....well let's be honest crammed in April and September...so the one day cricket, not just this year, gets the best conditions available. That's how it is in the modern game.
Be interested to see him bat now if he has changed anything, plenty of posts on here saying England tried to change this and that but not aware of this,if true, myself. We(England) do have a history of doing that thou-Anderson and Finn for example.
If nothing else some runs with shut up the dinosaur that is Paul Allott, an average cricketer stuck in the past with few brain cells.
Young players need time and patience and more time and patience.
Hameed has the potential to be a very good England player, we are not flush with potential Test openers.

Agree I have everything crossed he is the long term successor to Cook with someone we can look to build and innings around and can blunt the new ball to allow our devastating middle order to play there attacking natural games. Now just got to hope this isn’t a flash in the pan innings.

Flash in the pan like a lot of our current side produce but are lauded as ‘world class’
Sure, he’s not a world beater as he’s only had two knocks but let’s be honest, he’s the ONlY batter who looks capable as a top three bat since Strauss and Trott !
-
Is it me or are a few of the young guns hitting runs at the mo?
Although worryingly Gary Ballance has also started the season VERY strongly!
-
Pic also posted on cricinfo - stickers certainly look fake

-
Just need Cook to come out of retirement and we'll have 2 proper test match openers ;), Root can then put
his mate Balance in at 3, so he can hide at 4 and we'll be set.
-
Like wtf... why would he have fake stickers... ??? Hes a sponsored player. I am sure he can get what stickers he wants... let's not all go stupid now... they wont be fake!!!!

They're last seasons with the checks cut off and then this seasons model number stuck on top aren't they?
-
They are definitely fake. I sold them to him...
-
That bat has neen photoshopped in. He's actually holding a sandwich.

Hameed will be batting in a while - they are fielding in 1-day cup and looks as though they will have a pretty big total to chase!
Worcestershire are batting first and are 335-5 in the 45th over. So that'll test Hameed & Co out!
In another one-day match Gary Ballance has hit 156 (off 132 balls) and is still going with a few overs to go - I know there are a lot who don't like Ballance, but he's not doing himself any harm with all these run he's hitting! Is that his 3rd Century in a row??

Out next ball, don't want to be seeing any of this during the Ashes or WC mind.
-
Also, 150 for Bancroft on an early season wicket in Durham not to be sniffed at.
-
Hameed seems to have gone back downhill again!
Really could have done with him kicking on and getting a few decent scores to be honest.
Some other young guns about - no hurry as the WC2019 is first up!!
-
He scored a hundred in his previous first class game. It's not his fault it was about 14 millennia ago.

Tbf it was the white ball games that seem to have destroyed him again... urgh
-
It’s nti exactly I high scoring game.
174 and 174 vs 201 and 124 for 4 tbc.....
He got 29 of 69 in the first innings and just the 4 in the second.
I would hardly call it gone down hill again. Give the lad a few games before bashing him.
But then every odi game an England payer doesn’t perform, the forum does Suggest dropping them. So why not eh.
“He’s done” “never play for England again” “Lancashire should get rid” etc etc
-
Hardly destroyed, he 3rd top scored in the first innings.
-
Not looking good again for the young man I’m afraid - after s very bright opening season he’s dipped off again. Was dropped down the order to 4 which isn’t a good sign...
-
Perhaps he’s just trying a new batting spot.
Top 4 are still consider the best batters in the side.
Batting at 4 is hardly the death knell for his career
-

Seriously? At 4... behind a nightwatchman. Averaging 35 for the season, everyone calm down.
-
Calm down indeed- but hardly an England prospect at the moment.
-
Hameed needs time to develop and patience. He is not a modern style player in fact he is a bit of a throwback to the old days.
People commenting on here don’t look back to recent history of the development of young players in the long format of the game.
Cook and and Bell around 21-23 when they played test cricket, Ollie Pope more recently but he is middle order.Apart from those 3 most of our test players get selected a bit later.Whether that is right or wrong that’s how it tends to be...maybe because it takes more time in our conditions.
We are not India or Pakistan where they get younger players in far younger, it works for them but it’s not common over here.
I personally think Hameed has all the talent and temperament to make a very good test player, maybe he needs a move away from Old Trafford and a coach who can work with him better, and perhaps needs to find the drive to improve himself as well.
-

He started the season batting 3, moved up to open whilst Alex Davies was out injured, then dropped back down to 3 now Davies is back for. He only batted at 4 as a night watchman dropped him down a place.
Personally I don't think he is doing much wrong at the moment. Conditions have been heavily stacked in the bowlers favour lately with the amount of rain compared to a typical June. The pitch at Derby was never going to produce a high scoring game. Ultimately it rewarded the likes of Livingstone, Villas and Croft who were prepared to swing at anything that wasn't on the sticks, but not Hameed and Rob Jones who both tried to play with patience.
-

By that I mean not looking good for his chances of England selection - not for his county career. Although Lancashire did suggest at the beginning of the season that if he didn’t have a good season he was unlikely to be offered another contract - probably done enough to warrant another season though. Personally I’d like to see him at Essex working with Cooky a bit!
-
I think him playing 50 overs did not help him. He had a good start to the season and his returns in the short format was not great which might have impacted his confidence. I agree with some of the other comments that it might do him good to just move away from Lanc and find another county, change of location will help. Lanc has pretty much indicated that they are ready to move on.
-
Hameed has been dropped by Lancashire and will be out of contract at the end of the season.

-
Probably for the best. Hope a chance of scene can help him get back on track.
-
I hope a fresh start (preferably at Somerset) gets him back in form
-
Has any player made their England debut, do okayish and then to then lose their county contract so quickly????
-
Def for the best although it might not seem like that right now
Lancs have wanted rid of him for a while
He needs to go where the best coaches are to help him
Not sure where that would be. First thought would be someone like Alec Stewart at surrey
-

I very much doubt it. Hameed needs help to fulfill his potential, the talent is there
-
I'm sure someone will give him a gig, fingers crossed anyway. Definitely worth a punt for any of the smaller counties!
-
Terrible decision from a Lancs perspective but an opportunity for the player to have a fresh start and get back to the level he can play at. 22 is a rediculous age to dump a player who has shown so much promise
-
I think Lancs have been patient.. probably the best decision all round.
Think he needs a change and reboot... hopefully, it might be what he needs and is back inf or England in a year or so!
If he doesn't then maybe he wasn't mentally cut out for the challenge fo being a consistent top player. Might be better off spending some time with a sports psychologist!
Either way, I really hope he comes back stronger!
-

You’re joking aren’t you? Counties are still a business and they are getting no return from him. They have been very patient with him, but it’s time to see if someone else can spark his undoubted talent.
Piles of runs for Derbys I think.
-
With all Hameed’s issues against seam bowling, I’m somewhat surprised he didn’t try and get a stint in India playing Ranji Trophy to regain some confidence against spin bowling where he’s very good. Hameed is supposedly good pals with Kohli, I’m sure the Indian maestro could’ve hooked him up
-
Hameed has a contract agreed a new deal, will be announced in the next few days.

Surrey by any chance @Buzz.
Would like him to come to Kent, personally think he will come good again after a change. Has he dropped his dad as his coach??

Hopefully he’s dropped all the ECB qualified coaches who have been telling him to expand his game etc etc

Somerset need a decent young opener

Worcestershire.

Not at all, and I know a lot of Lancs supporters are of the same opinion. At 22 he is still learning the game. The fact that he performed to such a high level has meant that he hasn't been afforded the same room to develop as any other young batsman would get. Lancs will regret this short sighted decision I think
-

Interesting decision and logically I can only assume that he had either somehow leveraged his performances in India for silly money, or was being a prat behind the scenes. Put in context, Jack Leaning has just left Yorkshire for Kent at 26 - he's never been a first XI certainty, has had patches of form and some ruts, yet word was another two years were on the table...
Someone else will get the best of the lad.
-
Hammed is averaging 28 for the season, the same as Jennings which, to put it in context is better than Karl Brown managed over a decade on the playing staff so whilst 28 is less than where it should be, it is hardly a disaster.
The only issue with his private life appears to be a father who coached him through his junior development and still seems to gold influence over his son. The consensus view among Lancs members seems to be that the blame is on the Lancs coaching set up though, not the player
-
Ergo - worth a move to change things around. Lancs aren’t picking him, so why have him festering in the 2XI when he could be in the shop window scoring runs for someone else.
You don’t get in the England set up through sentiment or what might possibly be.

I am a Lancs supporter so looking purely from that perspective. If he get a back into the international reckoning then it is because he is playing well for us.
Hameed had played a decent amount of 1st XI cricket this season and it was a surprise that he wasn't in the squad against Glamorgan - a decision obviously made because he was about to be informed that he would be released. We were relegated last season in the back of insufficient batting so unless some signings are on the way in before next season, we are hopelessly thin on batting

Still nothing in the media.....go on give us a clue! :D

So who did Hameed sing with?

We could speculate, purely on third hand rumours, a mate of a mates auntie who says he told her while out walking his dog.
Ummm...I think a big move in distance away from his roots and down southish...
Essex, to partner Cook.

If you’re serious then surely they wouldn’t ditch Browne
-
I think wherever he goes he will displace someone, looking for a gap somewhere leaves very few options.
Are you an Essex fan? What's happened to Westley? Not pulling up any trees at 3...
Browne is a good player and Essex are an ambitious club, Hass would have the next Couple of years batting with one of our best ever openers and learning about his approach and mentality.
Hameed is a young player with huge potential. It's a win win for everyone.
:)
-
Not an Essex fan, just think they’re are other places where he won’t need to displace a bloke averaging 40+ with plenty of. Div 1 runs.
-
Agreed. Essex would be an odd choice. Browne, Cook and Chopra has just signed an extension to his contract.
There is a whole host of better options.
-
Isn't Cook Supposedly retiring at the end of the season?
-
Having watched his career from afar since his breakout season, and then almost every-ball of THAT test in India breaks my heart to see that his form has left him of late. At the risk of indulging in a bit of pop-sports psychology I would think given how wonderful his technique is that what is ailing him is between his ears. I'd love to see him play in Australia one day. In fact, Hameed on a first day Gabba wicket would be something I'd travel to Brisbane to watch (and I live in Sydney!)
-
Hameed signs for Nottinghamshire
-
It not a good decision for me.
-
Notts have had a few problems, good luck to Has, it is a brave move for him.
-
Good move... a change fo scenery will be good for him!
-
From the outside Notts doesn't seem a very sensible move, but hopefully it goes well for him.
-
If they get him back to his best - will be a smart move - am sure there's clauses in to protect them...
-

forget the had! theres big issues at notts, mainly in the management imo.
odd decisions over players being made, peter moores as coach.
we had the core of a really good squad but massively under performing.
Just lost libby to worcs too.
Really hope hameed finds some form (as a notts fan) but its gettign really difficult to be excited by anything happening at trent bridge.
so many holes need filling,
at least we have (on paper) a decent side for div 2
