I noticed that I like the handle to be telescopically shaped rather than a straight line handle.
My two season old match Keeley has a slightly thicker bottom handle whereas my two new Keeley's have a very thin handle. During nets that thinner handle bat was swiveling in my bottom hand. I am adding a 1/4 second grip to the bottom handle to match the thickness of my match bat. On the top side, I like handle to be thick (palm area) and then thin (finger area). If I were to shave down a handle, it will be thin in the middle and thick towards the extreme bottom and top.
Have you guys noticed this or tried shaving down a handle to make the grip natural and comfortable? Some hand tools have very comfy ergonomic handles and I am thinking similar principles can be applied to cricket bat handles.

The handles I’m shaping are nowhere near straight, I’m doing them in two sections
Top hand is round and straight, then the bottom hand section shaped to feel right, with an obvious oval for the thumb,fore finger part.
The handle is such an important part of the bat, it’s amazing how the smallest tweak can make a big difference to feel

There's a company in India I spotted who are doing something odd with the shapes of handles. A rounded square handle on the bottom hand and very big oval on the top. Sounds horrible to me, but haven't held or used one.

3 bats with same weight, shape, all pingers, and only one feels just right in my hands whereas others could've been made by a different bat maker with diff weights.

Saw the pics of the finished products. I could achieve the same effect with different size grips in different spots of the handle.

I've been fussing over handles quite a bit lately as well.
I recon the top half being rounded is important as I swivel my hand from back to front when playing square cuts and pulls.
Whereas bottom hand just stays still, only pivots round the wrist for leg glances.
Thats why Ive decided round at the top and oval at the bottom is best for me.
Oh and not too big oval at bottom as I like having adjustment space for my loose grip to move to more closed hand when pulling/cutting.

Every handle I do, I do the same
Rough shape with the drawknife,(if you’ve used one, then you know they are perfect for this,but you have to be careful), then final shaping with the rasp, I use a half round one.
Doesn’t matter how many I do, they all have to be finished on feel,,,,the main thing for me, is digging into the hand between thumb and forefinger,,,,,,it has to feel right there,,,and it’s not easy to do

Square at the bottom though, how does that feel comfortable?

Not a fan of square at the bottom,,,just not comfortable
But each to their own
