Title: Club Training Equipment
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on February 21, 2010, 03:27:03 PM
Thought id start a topic to see how well/ill equiped people clubs are and what people would want in ia idea world.

At our club we have 5 teams and have just talked the directors into letting us get some covers for the 1st/2nd team sqaure with the view of getting a 2nd set for the 3rd/4th team square next year.

We have a mobile net which has a artificial surface for practicing in and we move the net on to the sqaure for taining and are looking to build a triple lane nets ASAP as well once we find a suitable place for it on the ground.

Other items on the wanted list are:-

Bowling machine- so you dont have to get 6 people to make a decent batting practice session
Catching cradle-Old school but get your reflexes going when using one IMO
Ground roller-improves the outfield as we use the space between the 2 squares for football in the winter[/li][/list]

Anybody think of other items that would help improve a club facilities and the playing standards of the players by benefiting from them?

we are really lucky at our club we got accredited with the ecb last year so we had loads of doors opened by that mostly the grants got 50k granted last year so managed to get 90% of the stuff sorted at club eg a new pavillion, new nets, ground refurb and loads more

A Skyer, some narrow training bats?

At our club we got a grant for some new nets for 2010- they are supposed to be test match quality nets- 5 of them and 2 moblie nets- £80,000!

yeah pretty steep for the nets £25,000 for ours but getting Clubmark sorted so 75% of it will be funded.

Got a Skyer off of Tom and sure i can chop down some narrow bats but we struggle to hit it with full size ones!! we rasied enough money to buy our ground for £240,000 and have some funds left over so looking to get it moving forward in terms of facilities as well now.

We got a brand new roller last year and a set of brand new covers, not sure how we have managed all these years with out them. Looking to purchase a decent mobile batting cage and a bowling machine but a little short of funds to buy both brand new so I'm on the look out for second hand ones.

If anyone knows of anything which is up for sale then please let me know, i would very much appreciate it.

tom i cant believe how little your club had considering how large it is and how seemingly well run and managed it is. We have, covers, slip cradle, skyer (mine), 2 middling bats, baseball mit, gang mowers which partly roll the outfield however with the tumps there is no point in rolling!, then roller and bowling machine with generator and other bits and bobs around the place...

my club is very good we have electronic scorebox. Catching cradle, two proper good practice nets with extremely good base so you get good spin and no uneven bounce. We have loads of rollers, mobile net also. The thing we havent got but we need is a bowling machine

Oh my days..... :P

We're possibly the least equipped club ever. Things that spring to mind are:

Wooden nets - new ones soon :).
Catching cradle (nicknamed the 'Barry Radford Stand' after one of our players).
Artificial wicket.
Single wicket cover.

Things we need are:

Someone to manufacture or nets (kinda sorted).
Bowling machine(s).
Square cover.
Decent groundsman?

We have a fixed net with astro turf mat, we have 2 portable nets, 2 Bola bowling machines and have just ordered a large computerised score board.  I would really like a slip cradle as I think they are fantastic.

Overall for a relatively small club (2 saturday teams and 1 sunday team) we have a good selection of kit.

we already have a net, covers, 4 pitches on the square, a good mower, a roller, line marker etc. i think if i could choose one thing for my club it would be a bowling machine
