Title: Who Misses Out?

Technically Wood is also an option but the forum only allows 5 and I think he is probably slightly ahead even of Woakes.

Willey misses out tbh. If the pitches are flat his mid 70s dobbers will be no more than throw downs.

Imo weather will play it's part, therefore swingers will always have chance

I'd leave out Willey because of his ridiculous hair. The guy is almost 30 years old for crying out loud!

Would have said Plunkett until yesterday

Archer in his 15th game in this format didn’t do enough for me to drop anyone

easy, like in the test series they'll drop foakes even when he has (yet again) proved he is better than any of the options!!!!  :D :D

Plunkett misses out for me. He is way down on pace and those figures yesterday were very very flattering when you look at the wickets.

The way I look at this is Archer is basically replacing someone so you need to compare and then swap if neccessary. So Archer will bowl the middle overs that Plunkett will bowl, but bowl them quicker etc... and importantly offers you a death bowling option that Plunkett doesn't really.

Others -
Willey offers a different option so he's in (although it should be on the basis he has to get a haircut!).
Curran is in superb form.
Wood offers the X Factor that is needed on flat ICC pitches.
Woakes is the only bloke who has taken wickets with the new ball, so he's in.

It is a very tough decision definitely and I think the Pakistan series will make or break someone.

Anyone who thinks Archer shouldn’t be in there knows SFA, the guy is a serious talent.

Undoubtedly talented but do you factor in the disharmony amongst the mates of whoevers dropped? There is obviously a fair amount of player power there going by Giles recent statement.

I’m assuming you didn’t actually watch the match?
His figures were much better than his bowling deserved, none of his wickets were taken with good balls whereas although archer only picked up one wicket it was a superb ball that actually deserved it

I really don't get this disharmony stuff. Goal is to win the WC simple as that, professional sports and teams should always want to better themselves and the only way to do that is with competition.

Also Archer has played franchise cricket for 2 seasons going all round India with 2 of the most senior players in the ODI set up. So I think he has backing from them if Giles wanted to ask.

They should yes. But what should happen and what does happen aren't the same thing.

Alot of these guys are mates away from cricket and go to each others weddings, birthdays etc. Plunkett being one of them.

My opinion is that if England selected their best 11 players for the first match of the WC Archer would be in it. However I dont think that will happen

Well - a few tough choices to take place this month!
Three sections imo....

Section 1 - top 6 (squad spaces 7)
Roy
Barstow
Roooot
Morgs
Buttler
Stokes
Plus spare -this is currently Foakes after yesterday's display but I am sure they will want to test Vince/Malan further?

Section 2 - spin section (squad spaces 3)
Rashid
Ali
Plus spare - I guess currently Denly who can also bat top 6 if required so selectors brucie bonus point for him i'm guessing? I would prefer to see in form spinner like Dawson as he is hitting runs and taking wickets for fun. But suspect have they already picked denly!!

Section 3 - pace attack (squad spaces 5)
Curran (current form looks excellent)
Archer (raw pace and variation plus able to bowl in any of 50 overs)
Woakes (has been the best england ODI bowler for a while)and
Then final 2 places between.....
Woods or Plunkett
Willey  or Sam Curran
In my book, I would pick Woods and Willey although there is a decent argument for S.Curran and Plunkett!

If course, this may change during Pakistan matches!

Yep the 'should' and 'does' when it comes to England cricket!
