Saw a video somewhere...where the guy was using a hockey ball for practice.. anyone used one? Thinking of trying it when doing some drills on the garden drive...

I used them for a bit when practising on concrete or in council run metal cages/nets and didn't want to ruin cricket balls, they have a similar size and weight to a cricket ball so it's a pretty good facsimile. Don't use them if there is a batsman at the other end of course, I can't imagine that they're too good for willow.

I know I've faced them from a bowling machine when they've got into a bag by accident before, and I definitely wouldn't recommend it! Definite bat killers.

Thanks might give it a miss ... need a mat anyhow as drive is tiled and ball bounces awkwardly.. might just stick with old cricket balls...

The cheaper training balls make a decent substitute for a knocking in mallet if you put them in a football sock.
