Anyone here bat on leg stump?
I am far stronger on the off side and been struggling the start of this season with the ball angling in towards leg (out bowled twice already this year) and have always been poor at getting the ball away on the leg stump line. However, fear taking a leg stump guard might leave me a bit open to being bowled off stump and might signal to oppo bowlers where my batting deficiencies lie.

I take leg stump but my trigger movement is back and across which brings my right eye over off stump and at the point of delivery. It is certainly worth getting someone to film you batting in the nets so you have a good idea as to were you are standing at the point of release.

I think you have to a least try it in a few net sessions first and see how you feel. I tried it a couple of seasons ago but found that i was reaching at a load of rubbish outside of off stump because i wasn't sure where my stumps were and got caught behind/in the slips a lot.

when you say "leg stump guard" do you mean where you place your feet i.e in line with leg stump or where you place your bat when waiting for the delivery?

This is exactly what I feel will happen, currently leave the ball well but might just plant that seed of doubt in my head

It is a good ploy. I have to ask, why bother what the oppo thinks? It opens up your strengths. It will help if you spend plenty of time on the bowling machine pitching good length nipping away on off stump. Minimise your trigger and you will soon work out what to play and what to let go. Good enough for Barry Richards!

Surely leg stump guard makes you more vulnerable to being bowled, not less? You should at least be getting out lbw!
Are you not moving your feet much?
Leg stump guards do seem a little out of fashion with modern professionals?

I take middle stump guard but stand on leg stump, hoping to avoid lbws and know where my stumps are, anything near mid leg is easy to flick on leg, it feels like having more control and comfortable,
if you're good on the off then there'll be enough opportunities, as standing outside leg could mean you will reaching for offside shots, anyways that's how I felt and changed from leg to middle stump guard, hope it'll of any help

Learn in the nets where your off stump is and you’re fine - don’t think about it too much.

This is an interesting point, there is a recent trend for batters to take off stump.
I have taken leg stump virtually all my playing days, but effectively bat on off stump to spinners.

Essentially that's what it's about. It's not about making room for favourite shots or anything like that.

Is ithe off stump trend about giving yourself a good chance of being outside the line if hit on the pads? And little chance of being bowled?

Yeah this is the problem I'm having at the moment, although my bat rests in line with leg stump so the bowler can basically see all the stumps.
In the nets I leave perfectly well but once I get out in the middle I feel a desperate need to get bat on ball all the time and chase a lot of filth that I ought to be leaving well alone. As with everything you just have to practice, practice, practice until it's natural but unfortunately amateur cricketers don't have the time (or someone to feed the bowling machine/use the side arm) for an hour or two every day :(

Nah, why'd you think God gave us cricket bats?
