Updated thread on anyone who owns a hawk or just your general opinion on them...thank you ji.
-
I have a Hawk they are excellent bats if you wish made to your specs also if needed Mike and Rob have excellent after sales service plus visitors are made welcome at the old forge.
-
Don't know why they don't get mentioned on here more. Very good bats, handmade and great customer service. Lots of league players use them in Worcestershire and the players who use them always seem to get runs. Had one last season that was given to me, but I sold it to a team mate as it was just a bit heavy. He's scored a stack load of runs since.

if anyone has any hawks here, i'd like to have a look...one teammate hit a 16 ball 50 with one last week

Hi @TheFlipper do you have a relationship with the guys at Hawk at all?
I had a team mate who bought a couple of Hawk bats, but that was a long time ago, they were decent enough bats, if a very traditional shape.
They used to make brilliant thigh pads, I wish I had never sold the first pair I bought from them, it would have saved me probably £200 😮😮😮😂😂😂

One of the worst bats I ever saw was a teammates Hawk. Was pressed to within an inch of it’s life and just felt awful. Never even considered anything from them since.
-
How long ago? They have changed a lot since their earlier days. A former team mate got 300 not out in a Worcester League match 2 years ago using a Hawk. They seem are highly rated in Worcester & Birmingham league.
-
they are the best bats

Who do you play for @TheFlipper ??

a bat pressed within an inch of its life usually pings.

Used to see a lot and I’d say 5050.:9’r are very good and some are planks . Literally 5050 split from what I’ve seen used and it’s enough that it’s not just the odd bat.
If you get a good one though they are as good as anything

You could probably say that about most manufacturers. Cricket bats are all different.

I might come see you bowl. Especially cos you Bowled out jafer. I play in Wolverhampton but different club.
-
Probably worth mentioning the bats are not pressed as hard as they once were.
You can also get a double pressing on certain models.

Whats double pressing?
-
The cleft is put through the press handled fitted etc and pressed again for optimum performance.

Hawks are amazing and you know it

Most bat makers have made for one pro or another. Throwing names about isn’t helpful as all makers could do that. The mark of a good brand isn’t what’s top players use it (as we know they get the good willow and full treatment).. it’s what the bang middle of the range bat is like if you literlaly walked up and picked 10 out . No special custom this or that,, just 10 off the shelf
As I’ve said before, from thr many I’ve seen it’s been a 5050 split.. so in this case I’d expect circa 5 to be decent and 5 to be below par. Hence why for me, I wouldn’t risk buying one unless i was going too grade a side I’m sure that means they’ll give you there better willow etc
Always just a personal opinion though as that’s what all thoughts on brands are from everyone

I have seen pictures of england cricketers having his bats (hawk), so its not just naming as the owner said dont use this shape just because root came and picked this shape etc

Are you a simpleton?
Theres hundreds of pros out there... do you think they all go running to one manufacturer?
No denying Hawk make decent bats ( I've never used one but nay people speak highly of them), but there's so many others... if you like Hawk fair play. However to say they are the best is very subjective.
-
Saw a couple of Hawks at our match yesterday one caught a mouse.

If you got a hawk ur a decent bat and thats just facts

Brilliant, all batting problems solved, all we need is another new bat...

He's got some time on his hands, I think?

A well like brand at our club, some absolute guns among them, however I always see quite a few going in for repair/exchange, whether it's the bats or the preparation of the owner, I dunno.

I have yet to meet a Keeley bat I didn't like.

This to me anyway is what I’d look for. If a brand produces quality time after time at the mid range then the higher ranges should in theory be as good or better.
Win win then

I have had 2 Hawks (cricket bats, not birds!) and they have been decent enough.
The lighter one I sold on a long time ago. And I sold a heavier Hawk in my last clear out or the one before...can't remember which.
But decent enough bats and I seem to remember using a Pro one in the nets a few years ago. Was a lovely bat...pick up was great, well balanced and response off the middle was superb.
But was the "pro" any better than some of the other bats I have had? The answer is No, better than some but not as good as others.
But this is subjective really. People likes different weights, different handle shapes, different balance and different feel! Also some like clean 8 grains, some like 30 grains, some like heartwood, and some butterfly stains.
What I am try to say is that everyone is different and to say that there is only ONE brand that everyone should worship is more that a little niave!
That said, if you love the brand then sing it from the rooftops. But try not to be so insanely biased that you sound worryingly obsessive.
