Title: Chase 2018/2019 Finback?
Post by: WABH-J on May 30, 2019, 09:06:46 PM
Hello all,

I was just wondering if anybody had any up to date reviews of a new(ish) finback? I’m after a new stick and was having a look around serious cricket in Basingstoke and tried out loads of different bats. Of everything i tried I thought the chase stuff ‘felt right’ and I loved the pickup of the finback. I’m concerned about the reports of an overly high middle and am slightly worried the scalloping will have taken all the power out? Cricket bats seem so expensive now I can’t really afford to get it wrong, but just purely going off ‘instinct’ - the finback is what i would have chosen 🤔

Haven't used one but Chase bats are nice from what I've heard. Personally I don't like that much concaving, but that's personal preference due to me being a little older and growing up with full bats. I think you should go with what feels best in the hand but also the one you like the look of shape wise and are comfortable with, regardless of brand etc. Not sure if that helps!  :D

I guess a more succinct way of asking my question is: Is that much concaving going to affect the performance of the bat?

Imo for driving, full/fuller profile plus mid low or lower middle profile are more suitable, everyone has own preference obviously 🙂

I don't think it makes a difference essentially, just a looks/preference thing. It allows bigger edges at lighter weights, but not sure what benefits this gives you. Seen really nice bats in both and big shots hit with smaller edge/full bats and big edge/heavily concave bats. As said abv its in the pressing for me. I just don't like the look of heavily concaved bats personally, but not against them.
