Title: Best Overseas Signing of 2019
Post by: Real Munson on June 17, 2019, 10:18:47 AM
I thought our Saffa was doing pretty well, but this chap has demolished the Essex Prem - https://essexcl.play-cricket.com/website/web_pages/105823

40 wickets from 81 overs is some going.

To be fair he took 30-odd wickets in about 5 Sheffield Shield games last season so he’s quite good.

I'd not heard of this fella, but I guess it's possible he could play in the Ashes if injuries happen?

Google nick winter cricket and watch the video of him. I'd say he's a more effective Sam curran

Think I'd probably back Sam Curran to take a wicket every two overs in the Essex League.

Jason Gillespie tipped him as a dark horse for the Ashes - had a lot of success with the Dukes ball in Australia.

Makes you wonder why a county didn't fancy him?

But not 34 in 5 games in FC cricket

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but...
Think he's a relative newbie on the scene. Came up through grade cricket I believe.

Not 100% sure on the cricket rules but with other sports an overseas signing has to have played internationally, either within a certain period or for a given number of games, to fulfil the visa requirements. Would expect there's a similar rule in place in some form, so counties can't just pick up anyone.

Yes, I think this is right. I remember Northants had a problem re-engaging Trent Copeland.

I'm very much hoping Sam Curran will actually play five games of first-class cricket this summer.
