So today I was two overs from carrying my bat through the innings - dead chuffed with myself - but anyway after facing 126 balls you could literally have bottled the sweat coming off the headband of my old style Masuri. It was so saturated that when I leant forward a literal stream of sweat dripped off the peak of my helmet. Not only is this revolting but also bloody distracting when you're trying to bat.
I always wear a helmet rather than a cap as I've had teeth and facial re-constructive surgery that would be completely undone by a ball into the chops. Short of having a second helmet and switching it over which is not the most cost effective option, does anybody have any idea how to stop this? Is the breathability on new helmets better?
TIA

Get a few different swoppa bands.
Also there is a make of sweat bands which was popular on here at one point.
Edit: Halo was the brand.

Maybe a bandana could help and easily changeable during inning and cheaper option.

Yes Halo were recommended on another thread. But I thought they were a bit expensive so I tried cheapest Nike head band (£3ish from SD). This works fine and soaks up all the sweat that used to go streaming down my face and ruining the helmet lining.

I wear these and keep two/three in my kitbag for a game. You can wash them afterwards.

One of our opening bats wears a bandana which he says works well for him. Tempted myself after the weather last weekend!

Slight concern that I'll look like Ali G but I'll give it a go - thanks!

^ I wear a helmet over the skull cap and it is hidden.
Nobody has ever made a comment about these caps. Some people wear a baseball cap under the helmet which looks ridiculous but it "protects" their helmets from sweat (and later odor). People improvise because cricket gear industry is stuck in stone ages.
Good luck!

I’m doing some research into micro bacterial treatments in helmets currently to help prevent the issue of odours.

I'm genuinely surprised that @FattusCattus hasn't weighed in to this thread. He's not usually late to an inneuendo party... :D

I wonder if washing a helmet with soap water diminishes the integrity/strength of EPS foam? I sweat buckets. There is simply no way bandana etc is going to work for me.
-
Shouldn’t as it’s not a chemical as such that could effect it.

Thought of bamboo fibre as used in socks and other clothing?
