Title: ODI Team/Squad in a parallel Universe!
Post by: petehosk on July 03, 2019, 04:08:31 PM
Ok fellow forum buddies! Whenever I hear Jason Roy being interviewed, I am always surprised that he has kept so much of his SA accent, even though he moved in England as a young lad!
But it made me think about a few players born overseas.

So imagine if Roy and Stokes had never moved to England as boys. Also if Morgs was playing for Ireland and Archer was playing for with Windies!
They would obviously leave a big hole in the ODI squad!! So with Roy, Stokes, Morgan and Archer missing, who would you have in the England ODI squad and in your starting XI?

Kane Williamson, Shakib Al Hasan, Virat Kolhi and Trent Bolt. In my parallel universe of choice they all hold English passports.

If you are going there, the Currans are out too.

Roy - Hales
Morgan - Joe Clarke
Stokes - Lewis Gregory
Archer - Jamie overton

Just a quick think off the top of my head

Can’t pick Gregory and Overton - they’re from Somerset! Barely get a sniff in any England side - like Hildreth in tests!

True but not many compared to some of the test ground teams, particularly when they’ve been second in championship regularly

Why wouldn’t two lads born and raised in England count? 🤔

Yeah I just picked the "worst" (in my opinion and not to say their bad cricketers, I think bess could be a decent batsman on the long term) of a few and the more recent ones (I may have forgotten leach tbh)

Fully do count in my eyes. They could to qualify for other nations due to bloodlines.
Like when warne wasn’t an over seas for Hampshire as his grand mother was German.

Just wondering how far we was going down the “who they can play for instead”  before picking a side. This is a theoretical thread after all.

Well, you certainly couldn't have Balance - he was born in Zimbabwe, only moved to the UK at 13.

Add in Lumb (born in ZAF to a Yorkie legend), Dernbach and plenty more.
