So seems I got luck today with a recent punt purchase from Sports Direct in the annual made deal sale. Picked up a Slazenger V800 G3 for £50 as currently I have not cheap net, wet wicket etc bat but I also had one of these a few years ago and it went like a train, as well as having a profile I really like.
So this arrived today, 2 days after ordering. Weight is 2.10 on the handle haven’t weighed it but tbh it picks up well and feels lovely in the hands with gloves on. It’s stnnibg for a G3 with 12 tight and straight grains and an even heartwood strip on RH edge which I personally really like. As well as having the square toe which again I like as feel great when at the crease confidence wise as just looks bigger to me.
This was before MCC bat regulations so has a 40mm edge with light concaving and the biggest bonus is the handle is fairly thick, not quite GM style but not far off. All in all a real bargain I feel.

That looks a good'un! One of the best bats ive ever had was a £50 Sports Direct special, it was a V800 but had the yellow stickers. I think SD have some of those on the website actually, might have to try another
Enjoy the new purchase!

That looks like really good value. Saw a friend's £50 v1000 Fusion last night from last season. Also amazing grains plus heart wood.
I think part of the reason for the sell-off this year is that lots of the bats are illegal with edge will over 40mm. This is great for club cricketers though where probably no one is measuring...

No mate mine is the other V800 just gone to copy link but no longer on the website, still have the V1000 in G3 for £50
-
Still have g3 v100 as well for £50
-
Do the g3s come ready knocked with scuff sheet? Really hard to find out any info. They sometimes don't even give a photo of the back and profile...

No I added the scuff and this one isn’t knocked in, it’s very softly pressed to will need to edges and toe worked on but that’s what a Bola machine is there for to me, getting bats match ready.

I am looking at the US site and I am seeing some V800, V900, V1000, V100 listed around $125. Very tempting, I still have a Mark Waugh V200 (I think or was it v100) from the mid 90's. I will have to go on Slazenger's site to see what are the difference in shape.
Also, can you request weight via SD site?

No you can’t request weight pot luck mate

Crap, with my luck I will end up with a 2.10 or higher bat and I am looking for something 2.8 or under :(

My G1+ v1000 has arrived for £113. It is 2lb 10.5oz
See https://photos.app.goo.gl/8PqDPE4bCUgC4kon6
13 ish straight grains and no blemishes.
Massive edges at 46mm (illegal!) and high spine (possibly also illegal) plus some concaving. The face is totally flat and the toe completely square. Gives the impression of a very wide bat.
I would say not very soft pressed as I'm not getting big marks from knocking with an old ball on a string. Certainly nothing like as soft as my Mrf grand edition match bat or an Adidas xt black that I have for sale. These took many many hours to knock in.
I'm liking the pick up and look off this bat. I may keep it for myself for when the Mrf gives up.
Very impressive for the price. I'd love to compare with the G3 version. I'm guessing the edges will be smaller on the g3.
-
That's excellent value for 113!
-
Just tried to order myself a v800. They must of recently changed or can't send sale bats to Australia. Absolutely devastated
-
Maybe someone from the forum would get one and post it to you? Does it cost loads to post from UK? Pm me if you would like me to look into it.
-
Looks like it costs about £25 to post to Australia. But maybe you get hit by import tariffs as well?
-
Great value! I've been good so far and stuck to my new 2 bat rule (I know that's heresy in here but on orders), but they are certainly worth a punt!
-
Wow! 2 bat rule? Really? I seem to have accumulated around 10 'amazing bargains' which I am now steadily selling off at the club and Ebay etc.
What it has done is enable me to see and try out a huge range of bats from many manufacturers, honing my repairing skills and usually making a (few) pounds profit along the way. I would highly recommend it for any batting enthusiasts who have a few hours spare (which unusually I did this year).
Of course, instead of all this I could have just bought one amazing custom bat at the start of the year, but not so much fun I think...
-
@Psi I saw the one Matt had off you. Grains looked pukka but what on earth had happened to the shoulder - did the dog get at it?
-
That was my first refurb job - sorry to let it go. Sadly it came from Ebay with the shoulder like that and a massive crack at the toe. Still goes like a train though and only 'Custom bats' pride prevented me using it as a match bat. I did tell Matt I can't guarantee that the shoulder /handle won't break next week. He had other options and chose that - each to his own 😂😂

Stupid question of the day. I am assuming that the V800 yellow v/s orange label bats are similar in shape but the manufacturing year is different?
Same question for white/black v/s blue/red v100

I believe the V800 and V1000 are similar as are the same year in orange/blue and white/blue
They are from memory a different shape to the others. The one I have is certainly sondi made and basically a NB DC shape
-
Just received my v8000. 2lb 9.5oz, 38mm edge, 65/66 spine might desticker, remove toe guard and use it myself or sell it to a teammate... none will use a Slazenger... might tell them it’s a blank NB 😂 Bounced a ball on it and very softly pressed but taps up very nicely.

@SOULMAN1012 can you post a picture of the top of the handle so I can compare with my v1000 and see if it is also likely to be Sondhi? And do you know whether the yellow label v800s are basically the same as your orange label v800? Older? Newer?
-
V800 g3s all gone. Well done the Forum. Keeping Mike Ashley afloat for another season.

Yea I can post pics on Monday of the handle as the bats at work. The yellow/black V800 is a slightly different profile with a really pronounced duck bill toe and bulge in the playing area, it’s a bit like a Laver & Wood ultra shape in my opinion.

Looks like a decent amount of wood for 2.9, good grains?
-
8 grains and pretty clean for G3, personally could easily pass for G2 and now I’ve removed toe guard and some stickers it’s just under 2.9 now

Looks a very nice piece of wood. I like the profile too. Amazing value for £50.

What are the handles like?

Got my V1000 G3 through the post today. (HQ images - https://imgur.com/a/Cju1DOj)

Weight is 2.10 with all the millions of stickers and toe guard. Not bad grains for a G3 but no where near as nice as soulman's! I decided to strip it down and remove the toe guard. Weight is down to 2.7 with everything including the grip removed. The shape is very reminiscent of the old New Balance DC bats imo. The edge at the largest point is 39mm.

I had some Kookaburra stickers and grip lying about so I decided to sticker it up rather than leaving it blank. I'm really impressed with the response of the bat, especially for 50 quid! It's nice and soft and the middle goes very nicely. Due to the amount of concaving the middle isn't very wide but that's me nit picking. All in all very happy :D

That looks really nice. Sometimes I think 6-8 straight grains are better than loads of narrow grains.
Take a look at the G1+ v1000 that I received last week:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/8PqDPE4bCUgC4kon6
Great value at £113, but notice that it is not even close to fitting through the bat gauge. Edges are around 45mm and spine also very high.
I'm keeping the stickers - really like them, to my surprise. Never thought I'd play with Slazenger again after the Kashmir plank I had last season, but I think this may convert me back.
Could @SOULMAN1012 comment on whether the handle looks to be Sondhi made?
-
Sportsdirect are selling the v800 (G2) for £83 on their ebay outlet if anyone still interested in this model.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Slazenger-V800-G2-Cricket-Bat-Oval-Square/392178783111?epid=24026340313&hash=item5b4fad5387:g:6mIAAOSwkjJcWroR. (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Slazenger-V800-G2-Cricket-Bat-Oval-Square/392178783111?epid=24026340313&hash=item5b4fad5387:g:6mIAAOSwkjJcWroR.)
Double that price on their website.

Here in pics of the handle on my V800 and all I can say is it has the same branded numbers on the handle as all NB bats I’ve owned or repaired so confident this one is Sondi made.

Yep, exactly the same branding as my V1000. Happy with that... Thanks for posting.
-
Ordered a G2 from their ebay outlet with shipping to US and they canceled it couple of hours later :(
-
What process are folks using to remove the sticker, toe guard and the glue residue?
-
I heated the stickers with a hairdryer and carefully peeled them off across the grain.
The toe guard was a nightmare to get off. I just attacked it with a stanley knife and sanded down.
I have left the main front and back sticker for now. Love the shape but will take some knocking in

That profile is almost identical to my 2018 Adidas XT white 2.0 so i'm assuming Adidas & Slaz get their bats made at the same factory.
-
I think Adidas are made by SS and Slazenger by Sondhi? The profile is very similar to the Adidas and Also some of the Kohli MRF bats (that are apparently made at several factories).

Personally the stickers on mine came off really easily. 15sec with a heat gun and sticker peeled off with hardly any residue. I reckon in this heat if you uk based if you left them in direct sunlight for an hour the heat would be enough to peel off exactly like a heat gun.
As for toe guard flat head screwdriver carefully into the corner of the toe, as toes are very square this is quite easily achieved and once started to lift mine just peeled off no probs.
Weight of mine in now a shade over 2.9
