Title: Helmet Recommendations
Post by: JTtaylor145 on July 23, 2019, 08:47:02 AM
Hello everyone,

Looking for a recommendation on a new cricket helmet.

I have a Masuri OS2 that I find incredibly uncomfortable to bat in (just too warm after more than 10 minutes)

Looking for something that's reasonably lightweight, good visibility and doesn't feel like you've popped your head in an oven.

Many thanks

JT

I've struggled finding a suitable replacement for the my Masuri ever since they changed the regs to non-adjustable.

Shrey titantium is probably the best helmet around at the moment. It is expensive but when you consider they last years itll come down to a couple quid a game realistically.

If they fit on your head that is... In any case, not going to be cooler than an OS2 as they're pretty similar in design. I'd say you want something that doesn't have foam all the way round your head like those do (I like mine, but it is bloody warm), so maybe am Ayrtek with the air liner? Failing that, the GM lids used to have a cradle of some kind like a bike lid so imagine that would be cooler.

I use an os2 lid with an old style swoopa band and the upgraded padding.
Makes a difference.

Not sure such a thing exists mate. I started using an OS2 last year following a long absence from the game but couldn't get on with the smaller gap, although I thought it was comfortable to wear. I bought an older style masuri lid from Ebay and modded it with the grill from the OS2 and some foams. The visibility is better but its still not exactly 'cool', but then what is?

I’ve used shrey titanium for the past 2 years and t is top draw. Or you can scout around on eBay for an old Masuri I’ve picked one up and that’s even better

I find the masuri VS has the best air ventilation around among all helmets. It is slightly on the heavy side but air circulation wise unbeatable. And im in UAE. I bat in 40+ degrees during the summer.

Bringing this thread back instead of making a new one as it best fits my needs.

Going to be in the market for a helmet shortly... I had the Masuri Original Test? in the UK and thought the visibility wasn't great, certainly not as good as my old Slazenger (rebadged Masuri) Ti helmet.

The best options here seem to be the Shrey Masterclass (2020) Titanium at about $200, or the Masuri T-Line Titanium at $179.
I know this forum tends to be a little anti-shrey, and that might be justified, but does anyone have any experience with these two?
Leaning towards Masuri as it is cheaper, but visibility and weight are more important to me now that I'm playing somewhere substantially hotter than it was in the UK.

Thanks all for your sage advice, as always! :)

What happend to the new classic style Ayrtek helmets? They showed a lot of promise and the first reviews seemed positive.

Anything that complied with regulations will have “poor” visibility by design (smaller gap between peak and grill). One thing that helped me was that I wore mine around during the day at home, watching tv, checking emails etc. Sounds silly, but it worked ! Got used to the narrower gap very quickly

Currently use the OS2 Titanium. No complaints

I miss old Masuris with adjustable grills...perfectly fine for low level club cricket.

Haha! Can't wait to rock up to Zoom meetings in my Masuri. Thanks for your thoughts! Do you like the Titanium over the Steel version?

Haha - safety first ;)  .. the other thing I did was avoid temptation to take off the helmet during nets / throwdowns. In fact doing drop feeds, underarms etc with helmet on really helped my eyes get used to seeing “through” the grill. But honestly, just watch a couple of movies (or some live cricket) with the helmet on and you’ll be amazed how quickly you adjust.

I personally prefer the lighter weight of the Titanium, but the steel one is pretty good too.

If you have always used the steel grill then this is a perfectly good helmet but once you have tried the titanium grill, the weight difference is really noticeable  in my view

I love my Shrey Masterclass titanium. I have had zero issues with it and it’s about 2-3 years old.

I've been using a Ganador Pro and have found it really comfortable.
