Post by: six and out on July 30, 2019, 03:22:54 PM
Jimmy signs back with GN. Is this the end of Slazenger?

On a serious note, I am not sure that sponsoring players makes much commercial sense for them anymore.  They seem to shift a huge amount of children's and entry level gear but aren't a serious brand for established players.

If one of u9s parents wanted to buy one of our Adidas club shirts, they are 29.95.  You can pick up a Slazenger one for 8.50.  There will always be a market for that

I see they’ve released a bat inspired by the podcast Jimmy does with Greg James and Felix white (Tailenders). Selling at £150 to celebrate Anderson’s 150th Test match (whenever that may be) featuring sticks that resemble tailenders in that they won’t quite be the prettiest but will do a decent enough job!

I think this is a great idea in a time bat prices have gone thru the roof
Good marketing

And let’s hope JA gets there!

Only 25 at £150 they’ve said now. Still good that a limited release is at a reasonable enough price.

Genius - 25 "limited release" bats that "won’t quite be the prettiest but will do a decent enough job"

Basically they've taken a load of low end munters that haven't sold for £100, changed the stickers and sold them on for £150. Kerching

Think you may be right, I believe with another of there ‘’limited release’’ bats they just re-stickered old Kronus bats with some new stickers. As you say i would imagine will be 100 or 200 grade bats, which however from my Butterfly shockwave could give 1 or 2 very nice sticks in that lot

And whilst refusing to sell them to retailers, only direct - helping the margins.

So the retailers who have paid GN thousands of pounds for bats now have essentially old stock

I think Gray Nics have done this for a few years now but happy to be proved wrong...

Limited Edition Blue players bat from a couple of years ago - restickered classic series player bats?
This years World Cup Blue Stickered bat - As you have mentioned was just the Kronus shapes restickered, are they new for this year or is it just last years stock that they couldnt get rid of?
Ruth Strauss Foundation Bats (an amazing cause btw) - were they not just restickered Powerspots?
Jonny Bairstow's "Red" Shockwave for the world cup - Shockwave bats that were struggling to sell as we got near to the middle of the season?

And now these 'Tailenders'?

it is something that to me is wrong and has devalued the brand, I hope I am just being too much of a Nerd and noticing bat shapes unlike regular cricketers. Gray Nics also seem to be the company most keen to push forward the release of their new range year on year more recently, im not in the industry but it seems to come from them every year. For example they are releasing the new range on the 9th of September this year. Seems incredibly early.

Are GN releasing their new ranges early for a reason though?
You could argue releasing them in September means they'll be on show for all the Winter Tours leading up to the new season, and will allow people to get them as Christmas gifts etc.

As far as releasing a new range early goes, New Balance are the worst - they're 6 months ahead in the Southern hemisphere!

Good point! I think the things that annoy me is the release date gets earlier yet its all pre-orders for December / January and being impatient means I want the new shiny things now  :D

Yes totally agree re NB! My current spikes are on there very last legs but i'm trying my best to wait and get hold of the pair that every pro seems to have worn throughout the summer - that blue, black and white colourway in the new CK10.

The new colourway that replaces this blue one will be on the feet of pros before next summer if new balance repeat their behaviour of previous years.

Roll the grip down, it is sometimes written in pen on the binding or even on the side of the knob of the handle

Missed this before, those numbers should relate to the code on the trade price lists, dispatch notes and invoices.

I don't have access to those anymore, but any friendly retailer will be able to check. @Six Sixes Cricket ?

Position of edge stamps show it’s a good 3 years old or more?

I didn’t notice that on the photos! The edge stamps on mine are in the ‘recent’ position higher up the blade.
