Hello,
I recently purchased a bat and chose the option to get the bat oiled and knocked. When I received the bat, it looked like this,

Should I be concerned? Is that damage? Will it affect the performance of the bat? Does it mean that the bat if soft pressed and will start performing from the go?

Not sure I'd want any new bat to show any sign of damage or repaired damage, unless it had been made clear to me pre-sale.

It's annoying but I wouldn't be too concerned IMO. Is the darker area where it has been superglued and sanded? I'd be more concerned that the edges don't look rounded and there doesn't appear to be much knocking in! (at least in the hard to see pics)
Yes, it hasn't been knocked in properly and I will need to knock it in/ get it knocked in. I wonder if any sports shop will be willing to take it for knocking as they might be worried of doing any further damage to that area. I was always told that vertical superficial cracks are generally good and mean that the bat will perform well. Its the horizontal cracks that are dangerous. I suppose an anti scuff sheet should limit the crack opening up any further.

Thats the challenge. I saw pics of the bat before buying and it didnt have that surface crack; and I did opt for knocking in. Just not sure if this is fine and will get worse with time.

If you have paid for knocking in and you feel it hasnt been done then you should be approaching the supplier to refund you the money or complete the job in the first place...

Where did you buy this from? I would avoid them in the future. You get these vertical cracks after being excessively knocked in, it is unusual to get this sort of crack on a new bat.

I bought it from OLS. Never had a bad experience with them before. The perils of buying online. The bat does ping really well. Just got to hope that the crack doesnt get any worse in the future. Its position is worrying me as a lot of balls will hit around that area.

It was oiled and knocked in for free unfortunately.

Sadly, they have no customer service. I would apply some glue on it and then a scuff sheet. It should fix this. I bought MRF Elite from them few years ago, it was also poorly knocked in. I haven’t used their services since then.
