Title: My BAS Vampire Blaster LE
Post by: ca_gold on February 24, 2010, 04:37:51 AM
Well I finally received my BAS Vampire Blaster from Asad today. I thought I’d show you all a few pics and give a review of my experience.

Details of the bat:
2’8ish – however picks up as light as Asad said it would. I’m amazed at how a bat this thick (in my opinion) picks up so light! It has approximately 8-9 straightish grains. I don’t know the size of the edges, I’m sure Asad could fill in if someone is wondering.

Review of Service:
Never before have I experienced such fantastic service buying cricket equipment. You guys should all keep in mind that I live in Canada. Asad was online and accessible when ever I needed him.
He took pictures of the BAS and SS bats for me to compare
Also the care which with Asad packed the bat I truly appreciated. My biggest fear was dents/damage to the bat in the shipping. However, the packaging was top notch. If anyone is ordering from overseas, rest assured your package will arrive safely packaged. He also through in a grip, an anti scruff sheet and some extra things I requested.
I’m sure Asad can attest to the number of emails we exchanged back and forth, he was a pleasure to deal with and I look forward to buying more equipment from him (I have my eye on a pair of BAS Pads and Gloves!)

Enjoy the pics guys. I’ve thrown in some of the rest of my bats. I’m sure some of the guys would appreciate the old school CA Gold there!

I’m in the knocking in process right now, I’ll update this thread once I’ve had a few hits with the bat.

Looks nice. They always appear to be very long for some reason these BAS bats. Like the look of the Evo more! whats wrong with that, looks brand new?!!

Looks great, saw the new top of the range BAS (one above Blaster LE I think) at the weekend which had awesome grains.

Havent used it yet.
Doesnt feel as balanced as some some other bats i have used, but the middle feels real big and has a real punch.
It was a touch heavier than i wanted when first arrived from Asad who offers great service by the way
Have taken the back stickers off, changed the grip, replaced the toe guard with shoe glue and actually taken a palm sander to the toe and shoulders which had a lot of wood for about 5 minutes and it has taken about an ounce off.
Feels much better now and cant wait to abuse it. Looks like it will hit it miles. Love the profile whihc is non concaved and a lot of wood in what is now a 2 9.3 bat
Noticed that Tendulkar is using a BAS today

I agree, with the mallet yesterday I really felt that the middle was huge! but will only really be able to tell once i play with it.

have you played with BAS bats before? This is my first. Was always a CA and GN guy.

no, this is the first one i have owned.
It was between a BAS and a MRF when i was in a bat shop in Sri Lanka years ago, but went with the MRF, which was a mistake as it was an average thing to be honest
Got into bats more since getting a custom Redback and curiosity has made me get an Asian bat as they often look like big brutes of a bat. This is pretty big without the concaving so...Looking forward to giving it a go.
I paid a bit extra than i think you have to for an Indian bat, as yours and others on here look great. I have a funny feeling it will be worth it though.

I will write a review when o have played with it.
Look forward to hearing how yours goes

I picked up a BAS Bow LE from Asad in mid January and have yet to fully knock it in.Im amazed how much time this takes as I have knocked in other brands much quicker.Used it in the nets and there is a very spongey feel to it.Im sure the willow from BAS is incredibly soft and need some serious TLC.... and yes the middle is huge!

How long have you been knocking it in for? I've done a couple of bats recently and didn't take that long.....

Done a good 3 hours over 3 weeks but it needs more to make it more responsive.!!
It will definately play well just a question of spending more time.

your BOW 20/20 looks fantastic. how does it play?

On average it takes me about 6 hours to do a knock in. Normally I go untill the Seam marks/nails dont appear. Is that overkill?

I am not expert, but whenever i have knocked in a bat with  and by that i mean preparing the bat rather than hiting it as hard as i can.
More has always been better.
To me you get to know the bats performance by knocking it in more and personally i have felt that you can expand the middle somewhat and definitely improve performance by long knocking it. I guess as mentioned there is a danger of creating too much of a surface hard layer, which i guess would decrease performance, but then someone else might argue that this larger harder surface would increase rigidity and rebound to hit it further, so....

I am guessing here, but i would have thought logic would suggest that better wood with more grains would need less knocking in and you should stop when the rebound off the mallets stops noticeably improving and seam marks stop being deep.

lessser grained harder bats i think you can really work them with a mallet into something much better than you originally bought

However saying all this it is freaking tedious and a noise my girlfriend unsurprisingly cant stand so...... give me one of those Lingums any day.
I trust myself not to ruin my bat.

Just reading the gear reviews has re-jigged my memory. Was the Guru which was the Top of the Range BAS.

A Super looking bat and as usual Assad gives his all to give a customer his best service. And we have seen two of Assas bats here and they were both amazing but the last was a BAS plain and it was lush i will try and post a few pics when i can.

i have had a few net sessions with this and the power is immense! I've know put on a second (white) ribbed grip on this and the pick up is even better. I've put my fair share of time knocking it - and that has paid off, cant wait to use it in the first game in May.

Very impressed with BAS's bats.

Uhmm sounds tempting. To be honest, I am liking BAS bats as well! At the moment I like there Bow 2020 which is used by Hashim Amla whereas I also like those pads and gloves. I heard that BAS Bow 2020 pads are impressive. Hopefully I will buy one in future and I hope I am not disappointed

Just out of curiosity do you also have BAS pads and gloves? As you said in your OP that you will buy them so did you?

Thanks
