I was in the garage and came across my lads Kookaburra Blaze 400, it's only a size 6 but it's a smashing bat, got me thinking about using a smaller bat to encourage getting over the ball, timing etc... has anyone tried this?

I have used size-6 bats in matches. I am short - 5'6''. They are a lot of fun, especially against quicks. The first match in which I used it, I faced a lots of bouncer and a 2-8, size 6 (with a size 3 blade) bat was exactly what I needed to pull, cut and drive. I scored a lot of boundaries in that game.
The only reason I stopped using those bats was because they were too light for me. I couldn't get one made in 2-10/2-11 weight which is my ideal weight range.

@InternalTraining purely our of curiousity have you got these bats kicking about still? If so can you post a picture of it next to a "normal" short handle bat please?
I get the concept that it's a longer handle shorter blade job, but I just can't visualise it! And is it 108mm, so full width, or narrower like a standard size 6?

^ Would be happy to.
What's the easies way to post pics?
-
Urrrr, very good question!
I think the easiest way is to upload them to https://postimages.org then post the hotlink for forums into your message on here

@WalkingWicket37 , Here are the pics:

Top to bottom:
- Keeley made standard SH - 2-11 (brand new)
- Keeley made Joe Root profile SH - 2-11 (brand new, picks up better than any bat in this line up)
- Keeley made Blitz shape SH - 2-11 (match bat #2)
- MG2 made size-6 bat with size-3 blade - 2-8 (retired and lives in a temp controlled environment & pings better than the Blitz shaped Keeley)

PS: from what I was told, size-6 length with a size-3 blade was first created by James Laver. Marty Graham apprenticed for Laver and my first size-6-size-3 configuration bat was made by Marty. The bat was just too good and I wanted a backup so had Laver make a couple. They all swing extremely well ! If you are a short batsman, I highly recommend you look into this configuration. I'd still use them if the weight was right for me.

How much did this smaller bat cost?
-
^ Same price as a grade-1 bat, it bought it many years ago so I don't remember the exact figure.
It goes like a trampoline and then some!
I had Laver make a similar bat in lower grade, it was under USD300. It is a great bat as well.
I think you'd get a much cheaper deal these days. Marty at MG2 is a great bat maker, highly recommended!

Whats the performance like on the laver and wood? Any pics of the laver and wood ones?
What is a size 3 blade?

Performance on my Laver & Wood 6-3 is excellent; I used it in many matches. I will post pics later but in terms of dimensions, it is just like the one I posted.
What is a size 3 blade?
Size 3 blade is the size of the bat blade for a size-3 bat. A 6-3 configuration (size 6 bat with a size 3 blade) is basically a bat of overall size-6 length with a shorter blade of a size-3 bat. So you have a long handle, short blade effect and it is designed for short batsmen. I am 5'6'' and that configuration swings beautifully. My bats were 2-8, hence too light for me. I use a 2-11. So, the bats you see in the pics above have counter-weights set at size-6 length and I am able to drive without dragging the toe on the pitch.
