The bats an inexpensive, but lovely, Aldred Butterly
I got him for Xmas (albeit 4-5 years ago). Is there a RSPCB that I can call?
-
Iv Just been sick in my mouth...
How does this even happen ha
-
It looks worse than it is because he’s pulled the scuff off and half the contents of his kit bag are now stuck to it, but otherwise neglect. Used for 3-4 season (for a lot of runs) and doubt it’s ever seen oil or sandpaper.
I’m tempted to kidnap it when I leave and take it home for some TLC. It isn’t a pretty stick but it’s one of the best I’ve ever batted with when I’ve borrowed it.
-
Looks not too bad to sort that out and would come up really well, i'd be kidnapping it and having a play.
Find an old bat in a kit bag somewhere and he will never know ;)
-
Does your brother play in Bristol @Kulli ? Bat looks familiar, if it's the one I think it is then it's a fantastic stick.

He played for Old Bristolians a few years ago, then had a year out of cricket when he was working in NY. In London now and playing casually for some nomadic friendly side.

Yep that'd be it, having a look at that bat after an indoor league game a few years back persuaded me I needed an Aldred!
-
Ah, guess you played against the big oaf then, and were as surprised as everyone is when he bowls little in wobblers :D

You’ll all be released to hear that she’s on her way back to Oslo with me for some much needed TLC!

Pingtastic bats aren’t always the pretty ones...

The rescue operation is underway (https://i.ibb.co/qmr8SQM/D6-DA54-DA-0-BF2-4-E99-8-F73-BD7-A59-CED3-C6.jpg) (https://ibb.co/BTCJpMV)
The grains are actually pretty straight and even under death all those wonky butterfly waves.
-
What an improvement that is already!
There was a beautiful piece of willow hiding there
-
A pretty satisfying refurb so far. Once it’s finely sanded I might stick some stickers on it and tell him it’s a new one for his next birthday present 🤣
-
Looks great mate, good job
-
I'm fairly sure that the repair and refurb threads are some of the most popular on here, but I think this had to be one of the most drastic improvements to a bat.
I'm looking forward to seeing the end result :)

These it little more satisfying than returning a lovely bat that’s in a manky state, but if you can’t do that looking at someone else’s photos is the next best thing.

Here she is after a fine sanding and polish (https://i.ibb.co/xX8ydJp/133523-E5-07-A2-4-CC2-85-BD-D980-FEFA61-B8.jpg) (https://ibb.co/DzgNT5x)
And with some stickers added, wouldn’t have been my choice but what can I say, I got the brains. Might also whack on a fibre scuff in an attempt to keep it alive this time.

Seems a good job, well done. I have an Aldred butterfly and whatever you think of the guy he can certainly make a great bat.
Personally I do whatever I can to keep original stickers though.
The guy wrnching thing now is that your brother will treat it no better than before!
-
I tend to remove the stickers regardless, but this one was so grotty I’d have had no choice anyway.
Hopefully it’s lesson learnt but I doubt it, have at least extended its life a bit.
Agree about PA, the bats a belter, and lovely balance for LB.
-
It concerns me a little that your brother will walk out to bat and not notice that the bat doesn't have a grip on it...
-
🤣
It does now. He’s probably still belt a ton with a grip less bat, the big oik!
-
He told me was too broken for repair this time. So I took it and got him a new Scott bat for his birthday. Had to square off the toe to remove a shallow but nasty crack but otherwise scrubbed up well and will be going in my bag.

Scott bat for comparison, also a LB and a similar shape. Again won’t win any awards for grains/looks but goes really well.

Jonny makes a cracking stick if you look past grains and preconceptions. I've got a G3 from him that is an absolute gun.
