Title: IPL pay day 2020
Post by: csnew on December 19, 2019, 07:47:37 AM
IPL auction today

I see Cummings getting 2m+ and Tom Banton becoming a millionaire
Chris Morris and Morgan should also go for decent money

Pooran will go for big money factoring in his Indian heritage. Doubt anyone would want Morgan considering his back problems.

Be amazed if World Cup Winning Captain doesn't get a gig. Would be a shrewd signing for one franchise as captain IMO.

As said on here, Cummins, Banton, Pooran be the big winners I think. Imagine Hetmyer too and Cotterell. Philippe probably put a few $ on his pricetag after yesterday too. Perfect timing for a knock like that.

No doubt be some washed up stars going for silly $ too, this is the IPL after all

I can see Hetmyer being the big winner today after his knock against India last week.

Must be an odd day to be a cricketer, like being handed a winning lottery ticket or sent home empty handed!

Really don't understand Curran at CSK: unless you're Bravo or Watson you don't get in that team as an all-rounder. Besides look at all our other English players who have gone there and barely (No Swearing Please) played; Willey, Wood, Billings etc

Depends on whether Bravo's actually fit or he's just gonna be singing and dancing tbh. Chennai would be a good ground for Curran to develop his skills

KKR with some massive signings so far

Can’t understand kings 11 buying maxwell back for that much

Rajasthan once again sign up Unadkat, but no more million dollar payday - $420,000. Seems generous for a pretty mediocre bowler.

A Guyanese big hitter that’s incredible against spin will always go for big money - has an incredible record in India as well. Went for roughly $1.1m.

When you’re a foreign player you hope a franchise suitable to your game signs you up.

For example Chris Lynn, huge hitter and hapless against spin. Mumbai should be right up his street.

He'll get a nice payday, same as others before him. Don't believe a word of it when they start talking about 'improving their game', English players go backwards at the IPL often as not.

Far too much money for Curran in my opinion, some flat decks and small grounds and lack of pace, cant see it going to well

90 runs in 5 innings at 18 in last years competition
214 runs in 9 innings at 23 in 9 T20Is in India (also playing Afghanistan)

His ODI numbers in India are more respectful at just under 44 with two hundreds, but I still regard it as too much money

Granted his t20 numbers aren’t as good as his ODI numbers. But RCB is pretty much the VK and AB show. They never utilise their other players properly.

I think Hetmyer will enjoy Delhi more especially as Ponting isn’t one to go easy on his players. Additionally he may well enjoy playing with the likes of Shaw, Pant etc

Yes, much money for Curran. Slow pitch in Chennai would help. CSK also picked Piyush Chawla for a million.

IPL auction day

Moeen has still opted in for the auction unlike wood.

IPL flops Maxwell and finch will still end up with 1M+ contracts

IPL Auction day always makes me think....if I was a professional cricketer in the auction pool, would I prefer getting bought for less by a team where I will potentially get to play all games or would I prefer getting the highest possible pay check for my caliber even if I would end up warming the benches most season. That would make for an interesting poll :D
Title: Re: IPL pay day 2020
Post by: edge on February 18, 2021, 07:54:20 AM
I think most would probably take the games? The extra money probably wouldn't stop you going absolutely spare sitting in a hotel in India for two months. Depends on the player (and their finances!) though of course, if not playing doesn't bother you then happy days, take the money! It's definitely been a problem for some English players in the past - Roy for example has ended up in woefully poor nick after benchwarming at the IPL instead of playing the start of the English season.
Title: Re: IPL pay day 2020
Post by: csnew on February 18, 2021, 09:10:55 AM
Think Hales would be a big buy - Surprised he wasn’t picked up last year

Malan could go for decent money but likely to be a bench warmer

Jamieson also likely to get a big payday

Think Shakib will go for big money.

Be interesting with Malan, Hales etc... because of their record vs spin which counts for alot in the IPL.

Wood opting out at the last minute is probably a good thing because he would have warmed the bench whilst in a bubble which although having a payday has to put a negative spin on it this year.

How does this work? Is that it for Hales/Roy? If so very suprised Hales not picked up after top scoring on BBL.
Also how in the hell does Maxwell get so much interest? Had a shocker last IPL season.

I am not sure why there is no love for Hales. The same used to be the case for Guptill as well..a world class opener, but was never in demand. Shame.

Glenn Maxwell’s future in laws are Indian, no wonder the franchises love him so much. He’s been terrible in pretty much every IPL yet is getting nearly $2m

Happy than Moeen got himself a mega deal $950,000

Morris the most expensive player ever I think I read on Twitter. Another player that seems to get the massive gigs all the time without actually doing much.

As for the unsold players, if I remember rightly teams declare who they have an ‘interest’ in and these return at the end for another mini auction and all players start with their base price the next step down to what they first went up for. I think teams can also if they feel they need/want to do deals away from the auction directly with the players as long as they fit within the salary cap. Not sure if this is the case this year but that used to be the case.

You all need to remember with the IPL, Indian players don't count to the overseas quota so naturally are going to command a premium price - even the most average players will get picked up.

As for Hales vs Maxwell etc - it's all about marketability, these franchises are being run to attempt to make a profit don't forget. Maxwell's fiancée has an Indian heritage which will make a huge difference.

The main issue for Hales and Roy is this isn’t a fresh auction just merely a top up. So all sides have pretty much the same squads as last year. So they’ve already stocked up on openers.
All isn’t lost but there’s an IPL expansion in 2022 - two more franchises
