Title: GM 'MAXI' grade
Post by: WABH-J on December 26, 2019, 11:54:34 AM
Apologies fr the bone question but I couldn't find an answer using 'search'. What grade is the Maxi grading? Obviously it used to be a model but is used by SD here as a grade - I assume it's one of those specific to Sports Direct?

I think in australia they have a GM diamond maxi which is the equivalent to 606? So grade 3? I'm probably wrong but I think this is right

Might not be UK made.

Don't suppose anyone has a definitive answer on this? Have taken the plunge on the same SD offer for the club kit bag and hoping it may be a decent deal rather than an absolute waste of (happily not my) money!

Probably best to go on rrp equivalents to Gm so looking at 606 I reckon

Cheers @Six Sixes Cricket, for £70 that'll be more than good enough for a club bag I imagine!

The other really good value bat in that price range from SD at the moment is
Slazenger | V900 XR3 Bat - https://www.sportsdirect.com/slazenger-v900-xr3-bat-851033?colcode=85103390 (https://www.sportsdirect.com/slazenger-v900-xr3-bat-851033?colcode=85103390)

These can often have really good grains for the price. The photo looks almost G1/G2. Not sure whether the V900 is a good profile or not though...

Bat has arrived and it's a 303 grade. Can't really complain for £70 but no idea how they can be claiming that these would be going for £130 outside of their sale.

I bought one of these damaged on eBay for £14. Biggest bat I’ve ever seen for the size and lovely grains barring a hard bat too high up to really matter. Super
Full profile too.

How do you know its 303 grade? If it actually says 303 on it then you could return it as the picture shows something else. £70 good value for a 606 but not so much for a 303. SD will arrange free postage in that case. The £65 Slazenger would be better value.

SD are very bad about putting the wrong pictures up for bats. But if you question it they will accept a return with free postage.

@Jimbo if it's a 303 grade then it will have a polycoat on it, right?

There's only one thing to do, strip it back and do a "what's hidden" thread! :D

Yes, so it is. Annoying that they often post a picture of the G1+ grade even for the lower grade bats. Nevertheless, the G3s can look really nice if you're lucky.

I had debated it but it's supposed to be a club bat!

Has 303 on the tag. Not sure the photo actually does definitively show something else though?

Isn't the Maxi logo on the front where the 303 would usually be?

Message back from GM this morning, the 'Maxi' being sold from SD is indeed a 303. That'll be in the post for return on Monday morning then, not sure anyone would be too impressed with a painted bat in the club kit after club committee promised "some decent kit" for the new season.

I’d agree, £70 for a 303 is not a bargain. Could pick up a basically new Signature on eBay for that.

Yeah, that's pretty much my thinking. I may canvass opinion from the club committee and see if a decent secondhand bat would be a better option and see what the budget is. Seems to be a phobia of spending money on club kit sometimes but I reckon it makes a big difference to the casual players having at least half decent kit to use.

I'd go for the £65 G3 slazenger myself, or ask on the forum what people have available for £70. You may be surprised, there are some amazing deals on here
