Title: My new custom Newbery Krakatoa
Post by: harry kovert on February 27, 2010, 03:55:30 PM
It appears that I'm turning into a bat whore, not to the degree of someone I can think of on the forum but 2 new bats in the space of 3 weeks is a first [and probably a last] for me.

Anyway.....I briefed Mike as to my requirements....Krakatoa profile....9-11 straight grains with no heartwood...2.10-2.11 and here is what he found me......[Exactly to requirements!....actually beyond all expectations.]

This last one gives scale to how big the edges are against my Thruxton SPS [34mm]

Muchos Gracias Podfather.

2'10? Looks like 3'10! Mike does find some very good willow I have to admit, bet you're very pleased Harry! How big are those edges? The willow looks very clean and classy, should get some big runs...

I'm moderately pleased.......I tell a porkie.....very chuffed with the bat...Edges are 40mm and even after knocking in it feels like a bat shaped trampoline. As far as big runs go I have to locate the little red leather thing with it first!

Nice...

I was re-thinking my spec the other night and decided my next bat should be 2.10, low middle, big edges, less (or no) concaving, and not too fussed about spine height - just wanted a well spread middle to try and be forgiving as poss -

that bat looks like it could be my bat

Thinking about wood late at night can lead to all sorts of allegations Johnny...Plus it's my bat and no you can't have it! ; ]

that is basically my spec and got one of these off mike with 41mm edges and no concaving at 2lb12 so the bat is the middle

I got lucky with a tree and have 2 more of these left, not sure if they would come down to 2.10 but close. Hoping to get lucky again soon!!!!
