Just got hold of a lovely GM Purist Original LE. The 'problem' is that it has Michael Vaughan's signature on it. Usual dilemma : do I remove the signature and make it a playing bat, or keep the signature:

What do people think? I've never vandalised an important signature like this before, but it looks a lovely piece of willow, if not the current model (massive profile, no concaving, small edges, thick toe).

Personally, I'd keep it with Vaughans signature on it and keep it as memorabilia, but then again I also have 4 bats now and don't need another so it wouldn't make sense for me to deface it
-
Keep it as is.
-
Yes I do agree. It also has a Jaguar cars logo on the back, so it must have been awarded to someone around 2010 when
Jaguar started their partnership with the ECB.
-
Keep as is, great peice of memorabilia
on the jag sticker im pretty sure Vaughan was sponsor by them before the ECB was, didnt he has jag stickers on his bats in the 2005 ashes?
-
Yes, so could have been one of his bats from that period... Nice 😊
-
oooh, that's lush. :o
Keep the signature. Put it on the wall, admire it, pick it up and give it a swish now and again. You'll be glad you did.
-
You should add a poll on this thread. I vote - keep it.
-
My favourite bat ever! You could get B3 to map the profile and make an exact replica?
-
Bounce a ball on it. Given how old it is I might suggest that it will require a load of mallet work before you could even think about using it.
On that basis I would have it as a momento and wouldn't us it.
Getting B3 to map it might be interesting though...

Sounds like no one including me wants to remove the signature, so no poll required. Great idea to have it mapped and copied. It looks a great shape. Really meaty middle and no concaving. I do wonder how much we gain in modern bats from concaving and thicker edges.
Can anyone remember what year GM made these bats with all maroon stickers? Most of the pictures I can find have the standard blue /green livery.
Weighed the bat and it's a very decent 2lb 10.5oz. It just creeps through the bat gauge. Width slightly too large at the toe and a few mms clearance on the spine.

This will be from September 2005 - December 2005. After the 2005 Ashes series (where the green stickers were used), but before he changed sponsor to Natwest.
Jaguar was Vaughan's personal sponsor up until 2006.

Thanks for the info...
