Title: Adding weight to a bat
Post by: WalkingWicket37 on January 11, 2020, 02:19:13 PM
Hi all

Bit of a strange question but I'm wondering if anyone can definitively answer.

I've got a bat currently with a bat maker for modification. The bat in question was pingy as anything but the corner of the toe had sustained some damage, to the extent it re-broke first use after each repair.

I've asked for the bottom to be chopped off (around an inch) and a longer handle to be put in so it remains full size. This will obviously change the weight/balance.

Would adding lead tape round the bottom of the handle cause any issues? I'm thinking it would be the opposite of a counter balance at the top of the handle, but would it be a problem stopping the handle from flexing properly?

Thanks in advance  :)

Plus a thick toe guard, I guess

Leave it in the bathroom for a week and put a toe guard on?

I tend not to bother putting toe guards on as they simply come off again after the bats first use...

Just leave it next to a few tubs of Roses, a Christmas cake and plenty of beers for a while. Same scenario saw me gain a few lbs in the last month or so! 😣

Ask for a heavy handle to be put in. No guarantees it will add weight as the original handle could have been heavy too but if it’s lighter weight, the replacement may weigh a touch more

I would suggest wrapping some tape around the toe...or try having one of those hideous "diapers" wrapped around the toe. This should be more than enough.

Your original plan sounds good. Just hold off on the lead until you've had a feel of the bat. By removing an inch off the toe you're losing 3/4 of an ounce. So the bat is going to feel lighter anyway.
