Title: East Anglia/ Herts/Essex nets?
Post by: Psi on January 27, 2020, 08:07:51 PM
Just starting a new thread about this with correct topic...

Possible CBF nets one Saturday/Sunday in Feb/March.

I suggest either Fenner's in Cambridge or HECC in Sawbridgeworth. Of the two I would recommend HECC as it has parking, is much bigger, has an SM bat shop and cafe. But may be fully booked already. Prices seem to be £55/ hour plus vat for 3 lanes at Fenner's, or £27 per hour per lane at HECC.

I know @blindowl and @SOULMAN1012  might be interested. A few more would be good as I don't really bowl, just deliver sidearm throw downs (some might say I don't bat either, but that's another story...)

I'll get some possible dates /times if I can over next few days. Let us know if you are interested. HECC is quite easy to reach from North London too.

Yep as long as dates work I’m good, happy to do an evening as well if fits with others

I'd be up for this. Ideally for me in March rather than Feb, and in Cambridge as Sawbrideworth is a fair trek from Norwich!

I might rather park-n-ride to cambridge than go all the way to sawbridgeworth from newmarket if its on a weekend. However its not so bad from work so depends on times and what others want to do really.

Where roughly are you based @SOULMAN1012

Wherever we go it might be nice to have a bowling machine in one lane unless there are at least a few keen bowlers

@blindowl in in Suffolk, I live near Needham market and work all over Sudbury but mainly out of Sudbury, my work takes me to Cambridge and Newmarket so that’s why an evening works ok.

I’m happy to turn my arm over with some medium bowling but a machine I think is a good idea if possible

I'll get some possible dates then and come back shortly. An evening or weekend could work in Cambridge for me. They do have a bowling machine but one of us has to be a level 2 coach to sign it out, and I'm not...

Possible dates at Fenner's. Let me know if these work.

March 29th might be a good option, say 2-4pm

Feb 29th or March 1st: 8-10pm

March 7 or 8: 8-10pm

March 15: 8-10pm

March 29: 1-9pm

April 18: 9-2pm
April 19: 1-10pm

Some of those last sessions are a bit long - are you thinking of us each getting 50 overs in bat  :D

9 hours batting shouldn't be too much for real forum members 🙂

As an FYI our net was 3 hours last Saturday and we all found the last hour a bit much!

And we were all proper athletes in that net ;)

We'll go for 2-3 hours depending on how many players we have. Some decent pubs nearby e.g.the Free Press or Cambridge Blue for anyone that wants food /drink afterwards.

If we only get a few takers I'll invite in a few decent players from locally, one of which will have level 2 quals to sign out the bowling machine.

My season starts April 18 and I’m on holiday 9th to 20 March but all the others are fine with me, actually prefer and evening session as weekends are busy with family and kids

I've put in a request for booking on 29 march 2-5 pm. 3 lanes plus bowling machine.

Can people let me know if they can do this? I will reduce to 1 or 2 lanes for 2 hours if there are only a few takers.

I will confirm costs once Fenners get back to me.

@SOULMAN1012 I'm happy to check if there are more weekday evenings free, but I'm guessing fewer CBF people can get there for those.

I reckon I should be able to do 29th March too. I'm a decent bowler for my relatively low standard of cricket, so I'll keep running in but not sure how much I will test you all!

Great, we have 29 march 2-4pm available at Fenner's in cambridge.

So far the list is :

Me
@SOULMAN1012 (is this confirmed for you?)
@A-Swing-And-A-Miss
@blindowl
@Vulcan Cricket (is this confirmed yet?)

Any more I've forgotten?

Any new volunteers please?

Only 5 people max at the moment, so two lanes only with bowling machine. This will cost £45 per hour including the machine. £90 in total then. Seems rather expensive at £18 each. Are people happy with that? I'm fine with it but don't want to spend any more than that on a net session if people drop out etc. I may have one other club player who can sign out the bowling machine if @Vulcan Cricket is unavailable.

I'll need people to confirm before I fix the booking tomorrow please. We can always add more later as long as we have a viable minimum now (5 people?)

Still a yes from me.

Good chance we could get a couple more from the club involved. The Ennews are always keen for a net.

I agree £18 is quite a bit but if we can get it up to 10 people at £9 each that seems alright considering everyone would get almost 25 mins to bat.

Bump.

Can I get confirmation that @SOULMAN1012 @A-Swing-And-A-Miss, and possibly @Vulcan Cricket can make these nets please?

Fenners Cambridge, Sunday 29 march, 2-4 pm. £18 per person. Less if we get more than 5 along.

I need to get people confirmed before end of Feb as they have a 30 day cancellation policy. If I can't get enough CBF people I'll maybe run it as a club nets.

Probably won’t know until the week before mate as a definite but at the moment all looks good

I'm still very up for it, although hoping for a few more faces as the price is a bit high right now. How many lanes have we got? Two? What is the maximum number of people we'd ideally want?
Title: Re: East Anglia/ Herts/Essex nets?

I booked 2 lanes. So, I guess 8-10 people is ideal? I can get more people along probably, but they would be club players rather than forum members.
Title: Re: East Anglia/ Herts/Essex nets?
Post by: blindowl on February 14, 2020, 04:18:30 PM
Just a thought but if numbers are thin maybe we could modify to 1 lane for 2h.  If there are only 5 or 6 people 2 lanes seems unnecessary (plus the bowlers will be knackered).

That would mean under a tenner even if only 5 turn up.

Yes five and one lane is fine. But at the moment we only have 3 confirmed including us...
Title: Re: fenner's cambridge nets 29 march - more players please?
Post by: Psi on February 23, 2020, 11:27:38 PM
I still have this booked 2-4pm 29 march. As there are only 3-5 of us confirmed I've asked my local club if they would take 1 or 2 lanes of the 3. Hope this is OK. Will reduce the costs a bit as well I hope.

Anyone else want to join us?

It's all still booked. I've got two lanes for us. I've invited along some local club cricketers who can bowl so the whole thing is still viable.

More players still welcomed though. I can probably still get the 3rd lane if we need it.

2-4pm, 29 march.

I now have 3 lanes booked and bowling machine. There will be 10 or so club players there as well. I'm going to charge everyone £5 a head,  as that is what I am asking the club players for, so *not*the £18 I originally advertised. More people means lower cost...

Let me know if you are coming and I'll provide directions and the door code to get in.
Title: Re: East Anglia/ Herts/Essex nets? Canceled
Post by: Psi on March 18, 2020, 12:32:29 PM
I'm sure it won't be a surprise that we are cancelling the nets at Fenner's. They are not actually closed yet but I reckon they will be soon as other indoor facilities round here are closing quite rapidly.

Do people think that outdoor nets will be allowed going forward? I'm doubtful about this...

Outdoor net facilities, I don't see a need to close. Large, organised net sessions I would assume will be cancelled for at least a month or two.

I don’t think it’s a matter of whether it’s indoors or out but rather the fact that exchanging saliva and sweat via the ball (especially within an actual match) is such an integral part of cricket.  Unless they can somehow strictly enforce players not putting saliva or any other bodily fluid on the ball I can’t see how the game cannot be seen as a large risk.  Compare that to other ball sports such as golf or tennis

Just my thoughts...

It doesn't transmit via sweat. Saliva I agree with as a risk, especially compared to other ball sports.
