-
Kieswetter? Flintoff?
-
Got the bat today :)
OH MY GOD, its in a different class to any bat I have EVER had before. Picks up so nicely, pings really well. Knocking it in for nets on Saturday... Im half scared to use it, its so nice!
-
Sounds amazing mate, looks the business!
-
Whats the weight of it Leo?
-
how on earth did you get a piece of willow like that!?
looks absolutely incredible leo... i take it you got it thru mike?
-
Yeah through the Podfather
-
Just don't go breaking it like your Redback ;)
-
lol, full review and pics coming soon... I dont think Im even worthy to use this bat!
-
did you get the stickers direct from the mcgrath foundation?
-
Mike did yeah as an experiment to see what the quality was like
-
I feel the same about my 2 Newberys Leo...slightly scared to use them and hoping I can do them justice.
How much knocking in are you planning on doing out of interest. Mike's of the opinion you can get away with half an hour but I'm going to be doing plenty more than that!
-
I did mine for half an hour and it's fine :) first game I used it I toed a lot as I had to hit out which helped knock in the toe lol.
-
Leo my friend did not knock his bat in at all and it survived pretty well the first net session, however he does wish he had put a bit of time knocking it in. But I think aslong as you do the edges and toe and face soft/older balls it will only take about 30 to 60 minutes. But I'd probably do more with a bat like that!
-
Personally I think it is worth giving the bat as much protection as possible so trying to give it at least two hours knocking in - however tedius, especially with it being the preseason indoor net season where bowlers have been known to use terrible or cheap balls, which can ruin many a wonderful bat... just a thought (and maybe from slight experience a few years ago...) :(
-
Looks a cracker, i'm still a little confused how fake bats can be pictured on the forum...Let alone sold, but I don't know the exact details.
-
Genuine Puma, how can it be fake? Maybe you are moving in the wrong circles Bully ;)
-
cool great stuff so this is the 300$ model available through the mcgrath foundation website?
-
Does it look like a grade 3 willow bat to you Liam?
-
only just realised dom that the one on the mcgrath foundation website is a grade 3.... its labelled as a 6000 thats why i thought it was a G1.
My mistake.
-

So by that I guess the bat was purchased through Julian at Puma with them receiving the full money for the bat?

That's my concern Buzz.....and why I probably won't use my Newberys until outdoor nets start when I can have some throw downs with some old balls that I have procured myself....It does seem a little strange that our Coach only provides crap bat breaker balls [which shall for future reference be referred to as 3B's]
-

Agreed, also if he bought the stickers "as an experiment" surely it would have to be applied to a genuine plain Puma Mcgrath Foundation? And why would Mike do this if he had the original in the first place, as he can see the sticker quality.
-
Guessing it is a pros puma supplied blank and mike applied the gen stickers
-
Correct Liam, Gareth use your brain, if you buy a Mcgrath bat they come with stickers. He also sells the stickers to make money for the charity...
-
But how do we know it's still a genuine Puma? We don't, unless you have proof.
-
But how do we know it's still a genuine Puma? We don't, unless you have proof.
I think in this case it makes no difference as the stickers are sold for charity... I appreciate there is a desire to take the proverbial out of a certain member of the forum - but I don't see this as the same as buying a blank plank and stickering it as a £300 kookaburra and putting it on ebay... especially as when the bats are sold they are typically a low grade bat, as you have identified above...
-
Julian at Puma?, have no idea about the marketing world you high fliers mix in Tom, us grunts at the bottom of the pile are just concerned with willow and making the best possible bats from it. I guess you know that brands who can't and don't make their own bats buy them in from those that can, sometimes those that can will not always ship on a bat for some reason, it that case it can end up elsewhere, like this one has.
-
MY GOD! I don't know how many times i've had to say this across this foum but if he's happy with his purchase, (in this case he is) then bloody hell! leave him to it!
-

So if I bought a plain polo shirt from the factory which makes Lacoste polo shirts. Bought a seperate crocodile logo and stuck that on is it a genuine Lacoste polo? If I take a blank SG and stick Kooka stickers on is it genuine?
If you did buy it from Tim/Puma's supplier and cut Puma out it's not a genuine Puma and never will be regardless of stickers and who it was made for.
All this is besides the point though I guess, it's a lovely bat and performs brilliantly.
-
I'm not sure who makes Lacoste polo shirts so you have me their Tom. But when Puma order bats for their International players from the best bat maker in the business then I would think whatever he makes for them is going to be a Puma bat. Therein lies the crux of our clash of opinions, you see a bat as something made for you in a factory with stickers added to make it your product, I see it as a bat.
Not sure what the performance will be like, it taps up very well.
-
I have no doubt that if an international player was using that bat, Puma would tell you it's a genuine Puma and would take credit for the runs scored etc, regardless of whether that particular bat went through their books at their HQ or not...
-
Leo is not an international player yet..... but he has plans.....
-
Puma ordered the bat, they never received it and would therefore have never paid for it due to it going somewhere else. From my understanding this particular bat was never their property and it was consequently never a Puma bat.
-
So the Lacoste polo made at the factory contracted by Lacoste, doesn't get shipped to their headquarters isn't a Lacoste polo?? ???
-
something fishy going on here!
Can someone clarify, is this bat a puma that has had puma labels added or is it just a plain bat that was stickered up?
-
Its a bat meant for a puma signed player, that wasnt required by the puma player i believe....
-
Tom - Theoretically, if i was to go to hunts and pick out one of your blank mongoose's and then use stickers that you sold on an external site, would this bat still not be a mongoose because you havnt got your cut?
To me, and probably most other people, that bat would be a mongoose regardless of whether you have made the profit or someone else.
-
Bat rejected by the bat maker and another made in its place, most if not all other companies would haver sent it. Made for an order of 4 for a player, to his spec's. I added the Ballistic stickers as I got a set to check the quality, I also added a Lekka grip to check the quality of that too, not claiming the bat is a Lekka!!!
-
Theoretically SS it's a fake yes. The bat isn't a genuine Mongoose as it isn't authorised by us. Another slightly different example is that if I import Levi jeans from America and sell them here they're not genuine in the eyes of the law.
You didn't claim the bat was a Lekka, but you claimed it was a genuine Puma.
-
so who made the bat you said the best batmaker in the world did it come from New Zealand ??????????
-
OK then would this be better,
A genuine Pro spec bat made to England Players spec's supplied by Puma, but rejected by the bat maker as not quite right and sold with a Genuine set of Puma stickers and genuine Lekka grip. Please say yes Tom.
New Zealand!!!!!!!!!!!!!! full of Sheep and Sheep S.......'s
-
Shearer's?
-
laver and marty over talisman and anybody else on this forum sorry only won winner stats do not lie
-
Tom just wondering are all of your sponsored players using the bats made from the same batmaker??
-
We have 3 batmakers CD0070 so no, some want them made in India and some want them made in the UK.
-
Of course, just couldn't spell that.
Ask Marty where he gets his willow from?
Send me those stat's.
-
i am staying out of this one i have evolved all i know is it looks a nice bat a little over exaggeration maybe with the description but if the buyers happy and the sellers is to then so what might have to put up my Rahul Dravid tapebat Match used
-
what mike your telling me you alone sell more handmade bats than Laver
-
Think hes giving an inkling as to where Marty may source his willow from...but maybe me getting the wrong end of the bat (which sounds painful in itself!!)
-
Not me, but a friend, happen to know a little about bat making in New Zealand though.
-
Thanks Tom,
Who's standard does the bat have to met Mongoose (if its Mongoose how do you verify the bats from India) or the players? Meaning does the bat come to you first and than someone approves it to say this is good enough and sends it on to the players? Also what happens if the players don't like the bat approved?
I ask for 2 reasons, first just to know how it works.. 2nd if the scenario I mentioned about the player not liking the bat, what happens to that bat? Surely that bat must be better than the other Mongoose bats on the market, how can one get one of those bats?
-
Bats come to us, I sticker them and approve them then send them onto the players. If the players don't like the bats we have them back and use them for demo purposes or occasionally sell them.
These days though I know pretty much what all our sponsored players and players we supply bats to like.
-
if he happy with the bat all that matters but and it a big but if that was sold by somebody new or not in the click i bet there would be something to say about it without doubt.
-
I see many bats being sold as something they are not, but I happen to know its roots from rough cleft to Leo's new toy so what would you do? If I said it was just a bog standard bat I'd be lying, surely it is better to give some history to a bat when you sell it.
The real problem is knowing far more about people and the industry than you can print.....
-
for what it worth looks alone looks a cracker i do not like the stickers bud hope it goes well up at Uxbridge mate
-
Thanks Tom, would love to see one of the pro bats even if it was rejected if you have one around can you send me a few pics.. Which one of your players has the most demands on details of the bat or are they all pretty easy going?
-
With bats Azhar Mahmood is the pickiest, spent 2-3hrs just getting the handle shaped right. We also have a player who drew round his hands to get his gloves the right size.
-
get any fussy pad men tom
-
mike how much would one of these bats cost if made available to the general public
-
They're not available, just a fluke I had this one and owed Leo after messing him around with the tools.
I have something heavier here that might be of interest though.
-
thanks Tom..
-
If pro cricket isn't mike please pm me as I would be interested.
-
what weight is that bat Mike.
(great looking bats recently by the way)
I always think that if people are talking about you, then you are doing something right!
-
I'm a argumentative sod, so apologies to those who take it all seriously....
Leo's is 2.9 finished, the one here is 2.10 blank with 41mm edges.
-
Mike....is the 2.10 the relative of my Newbery Custom?
-

Don't forget to mention the sofa!
-
Its only a chair, and it may have to go one day so rest assured it will be sold on here.
It is a similar looking beast, you did see it.
-
Tis a case of the beast being a beauty then...I'm sure if/once you put pics up it will fly off the sofa!
-
The blank is not the same as Leo's in shape. It is a completely different shape, sold it's friend a few minutes ago and may well put it up.
-
quote Don't forget to mention the sofa!
[/quote]
That chair needs some seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerious signage and branding on it!
-
I love it when a topic takes a random life of it's own and blows up from 2 pages to 6 before you've had time to check back in!!
-
I thought so...was comparing to mine in shape rather than Leo's "Puma" ; ]
-
Do you know - Mike is missing a trick with his sofa/chair!
He could sell advertising space on there!! Marketing possibilities!
They advertise by the sides of motorways - why not on Mikes chair when he's showing off his bats? :)
-
Good idea - anyone know a good graphics guy - oh me - yay!
-
As LB94 would have asked . . . .
"Where can I get a Lacoste bat but made by Levi's with the Puma profile???" :)
-
Mr Cattus
Any chance that you could do some advertising graphics on my sheepskin rug - may as well get on the advertising band-wagon myself!
-
Tbd pete, brimbles chair is not a patch on your bat rug!
-
Need my bat rug replacing as the dogs destroyed its beauty during all the bad weather! :(
A few tears were shed - my beloved bat rug! But am looking for a mark.2 rug as we speak!
My bat rug may be of been a thing of true beauty compared with Mikes chair, but his chair has seen some absolute magnificent willow!
-
You're right, I've handled some serious wood while sat in this chair with the laptop in front of me.
-
Hopefully not while intently watching the computer screen mike! Ps still want a chat I'll pm my number
-
I must admit that I have had my share of handling my wood on the rug in front of the fire too! ???
-
I must admit that I have had my share of handling my wood on the rug in front of the fire too! ???
The difference is Pete, the wood you're talking about is actual wood... Haha ;)
-
:D
-
Please let the man write innuendo without ruining it for him.....
-
That is one nice piece of wood
-
I have wood
-
Best not phone you now then, will give you a call in the morning when you have calmed down!!!
-
Oh mike I have more wood in the morning than tonight
-
It will be a very uncomfortable call for me to make then.....
-
laver and marty over talisman and anybody else on this forum sorry only won winner stats do not lie
Not proclaiming I am [so as my Norb account] but I would say neither of those 2 [maybe start another thread though]
