Cos you all love a selection thread, and the idea of England putting out a test and limited overs side on the same day seems to be gaining traction... who would you pick if we were playing West Indies in a test and Australia in t20s at the same time?
My test side:
1. Sibley
2. Crawley
3. Burns
4. Root
5. Pope
6. Stokes
7. Foakes
8. Bess
9. Archer
10. Wood
11. Jimmy
Squaddies: Denly, S Curran, Broad, Leach
Bess gets in over Leach as I'm assuming Leach won't have played much cricket yet. Jimmy, Broad and Wood to rotate through series.
T20:
1. Roy
2. Banton
3. Bairstow
4. Morgan
5. Buttler
6. Billings
7. Ali
8. Howell
9. T. Curran
10. Jordan
11. Rashid
Squad: Parkinson, Brown, Willey, Malan.
Realistically two or three from the test squad will make the t20wc squad so a good time to give a few players a chance. Banton and Malan are competing over a spot, would have liked to get Livingstone in but the top order is too congested. Billings in the finishing role. Benny Howell comes in as it's a travesty he hasn't been picked yet and it's not too late for him to make the WC!

I'd have Archer in the T20 side and bring broad/woakes into the test side - Archer a much better T20 bowler at the moment and T20 WC coming up!
My sides:
Test
1. Sibley
2. Burns
3. Crawley
4. Root
5. Stokes
6. Pope
7. Foakes
8. Woakes (ahead of broad as otherwise the tail is too long)
9. Wood
10. Anderson
11. Leach
T20:
1. Hales (on form he should be in...) Roy if Morgan is too stubborn
2. Banton
3. Bairstow
4. Ali (stats say he destroys it in the middle overs)
5. Morgan
6. Buttler
7. T Curran
8. Willey
9. Jordan
10. Archer
11. Rashid

The thing I really don't understand about Jofra Archer is how he's got so much stick about his test bowling. He's taken 3 five-fors in 7 tests at 27 (better than Broad's career average). The only thing he's lacking is experience, which is why I put him down for tests.
Realised I forgot Woakes... he'd be in for Sam Curran.
-
He's an excellent test bowler albeit still learning! But majority of his cricket has been T20 and that's where we need him most in the immediate future, IMO. Given that Wood can provide the high pace for the test team and there are other skilful operators that England can call on in that format, whereas we don't have anyone of his T20 quality.

It is a complete mystery to me too. He has taken 30 wickets in 7 matches at 27s whilst carrying a fairly serious injury.

Rotate Wood/Archer/Jimmy/Broad depending on fitness and form given Jimmy's age and injuries.. given Woods fitness and that we don't want to break Archer by playing him in White Ball.
Leach in as he's the man in possession and Woakes in for Curran (who is dropped totally) because.. well.. he's so far ahead it's unreal than Curran.

Of those two fixtures, I would find myself wanting to get as close as possible to my first choice T20 side out, given there is a World Cup in the Winter That means I would look at:
Roy
Bairstow
Malan
Stokes
Morgan
Buttler
Ali
T Curran
Rashid
Archer
Jordan
With reserves probably Lyth, Willey, Gregory, Mahmood and Billings
That leaves a somewhat experimental Test side of:
Sibley
Burns
Crawley
Root
Pope
Foakes
Woakes (to take on a limited bowling role)
Bess
Wood
Stone
Anderson
Reserves - Broad (to rotate with Anderson), Robinson, Lawrence, Leach

You could comfortably put out a test side, t20 and odi side at the moment. We have that many top white ball players.

Possibly...loosely selected, in match day squads of 14:
Test: Burns, Sibley, Crawley, Root, Stokes, Pope, Foakes, S Curran, Bess, Anderson, Wood plus Stone, Broad, Leach
ODI: Roy, Bairstow, Vince, Morgan, Buttler, Lawrence, Ali, Woakes, Rashid, Archer, Plunkett plus Denly, Mahmood, Dawson
T20I: Banton, Hales, Malan, Livingstone, Billings, Willey, Gregory, T Curran, Jordan, Parkinson plus Lyth, Mills, Topley
That doesn't overly rely on the tried and discarded like Ballance, Patel etc, nor have I called upon untried but promising names like Ollie Robinson, Garton, Coad, Jamie Overton...
-
Does show our white ball batting strength - Hales is a different case of course but Billings, Livingstone and the likes of Sam Hain are outrageously good and absolutely nowhere near selection. Malan is closer but looks unlikely to make the t20wc squad, and he's ranked 6th in the world!

Giles today floating the idea of England v England A warmup games, brilliant! Could someone be the next Limb/Kieswetter?
