My orbital sander seems to be on its way out, so looking at upgrading to something better.
Anyone got experience of the Mirka or Festool orbital Sanders?
I follow a few woodworking people on Insta and one of them was praising the Mirka dust free one (but was obvs promoting it for them too)
Thanks.

Used a festool for a variety of jobs including end of season bat refurb.really really good sander connect it to a vac and its virtually mess free. Various attachments for it too. Not cheap though.

Festool is the absolute dogs danglies of sanders, it's an incredible bit of kit, and if you are doing bat making or refurbs it's a worthwhile investment.

Festool RO 125 is unreal when using Mirka Abranet discs and hooked up to a vacuum. This was the recommendation from Northernmonkey and you see the finish on his bats.

When I worked in joinery shops, festool was always the dander of choice

Thanks. Always thought the Festool would be the best bet, but then heard good things about the Mirka as well. I'm investing in one of them most likely, just trying to decide which.

We’ve used Festools for the past 20 odd years for our final finishing. Fantastic sanders.

Why would you sand a hoover?

Thanks, appreciate the reply. I have been leaving towards the Mirka from what I've read online, but both seem great options.

Can’t beat the festool rotex for versatility and decent finish
And if hooked up to their extraction, then it’s virtually dust free,(which again aids final finish)
The Mirka gets a lot of praise online, my mate who makes fine furniture, has two,(different orbits), but prefers his festool sanders.
Big investment,,, try and get a demo of both if possible as the mirka doesn’t suit all with its paddle operation

Thanks mate. It is a decent investment but would have a decent resale if it didn't work out, so happy to go with one.
I've just spoken to someone at Mirka who have me some further info and is sending me some samples of papers etc. He said they're both great machines in fairness and it maybe just personal preference on design/feel as you say..
My orbital sander has just about given up the ghost, so need to replace and the vibration anyway is annoying!

Thanks for all the replies on this. I've gone for the Mirka, as it seems to fit the bill and got a decent price online. I'll update with my thoughts once I've got it.
