Title: If we don’t get any cricket this season...
Post by: SouthpawMark on May 10, 2020, 08:34:33 PM
Do you think the manufacturers will roll over their 2020 models to 2021, or do you think they will release new models for 2021, and not care that people have bought 2020 models, and will likely not use them before they become “old”?

Most of the main brands will have ordered/designed their 2021 ranges well before COVID took hold. Even I would've usually finalised my order by now.

Things may change due to the lockdown in India being a lot stricter than our feeble attempt, which is no doubt going to cause production delays, but I would still expect to see new ranges from the big boys.

I agree with this

And end of season sales I very much doubt will include this seasons stock, well any more discounted than it already is

Surely most the big brands will have sold the majority of their stock for this year well before the issue began? Most retailers took delivery late 2019/early 2020?

It's the retailers that will be hit as opposed to the brands no?

(Genuine question here, not digging holes!! lol)

This was an interesting debate on a golf podcast I listened to this week.
The 2020 releases have hit the shops in Jan and sales were ramping up ahead of summer.

The debate was with 2020 driver stock sitting on the shelf still, end of season sales have got to hit early. To make way for 2021
But how can they drop prices that easily... so would this mean that the price bubble bursts. And drivers drop back down in price.

Could this be the same for certain cricket brands?
The main takeaway was traditional retailer would struggle as their margins were smaller. Direct to consumer with minimal overheads were more likely to survive.

@Kez but most of the big golf brands launch a new driver every 3 or 4 months anyway these days, so they'll likely be able to carry on as normal? 😂

Also much easier to restart Golf (people will walk far enough from others, or only one person per cart instead of two).

Apparently there is an announcement today that golf due to re-start on Wednesday in some form. Along with other sports that can be done alone or pairs like Fishing or Tennis.

Potentially the opportunity for nets in your household group at the club then? Pretty sure I could convince the missus to feed a bowling machine in the sunshine for a couple of hours 😅

Purely hearsay. GN and Kooka will ship UK ranges to Australia and South Africa. The factories they use in India are currently over supplied with willow.

Lets see if those "Grade 1 Plus pro willow top 1% of timber" bats come to down regular prices around £200 max, instead of something like £700 or £800 or £900 or even a grand.

no chance of this happening....... the best deals will come from the smaller brands i would think.

i could be wrong but i cant see the likes of GN legends or GM le player editions being anywhere near £200.

i genuinely think if you are in the market for new stash now is the time to get it

Already some absolutely incredible deals out there. Suspect there are likely to continue to be great deals available for the rest of this 'season'.

Drop Shipments for retailers can go upto June.

Likes of Kook and GN will have had shipments from India arrive in the last few weeks, so they will be desperate for the shops and some sort of season to go ahead

^ That is what I would assume too- brands have already sold "this year's" kit to retailers and will already have 2021 stuff ordered. Smaller brands may roll over 2020 kit as 2021 but not the bigger brands. Real question then is will they sell much 2021 kit? Will retailers want to take that much on (of course they may be forced to with minimum orders)? Either way it looks toughest for retailers
Yes all the big brands would of been designing next years range from end of last launch. Pretty sure a few of them can get away with just redesigning stickers to go on the same bats for 2021. Lets be fair a few of them do if every year anyhow.

No chance of premium grade willow becoming cheaper for the consumer unless a range from the big guys hasnt sold and they sell to retailers cheap to clear. I expect softs will be the where the bargains are
