So this one was for my teammate. He had this standard retail MRF grand edition thats his absolute favorite but its heavily delaminated now and past its peak. Since then he has tried about a dozen bats but hasn't found any to his liking.
He asked me if i could help him get his bat replicated exactly the same way in the best grade possoble and gave me his old bat to gauge. i called Mr. Jolly at RS and he said it wouldn't be a problem. Its a standard kohli shape in the end weighing 2.10 but with a very unusually shaped handle. Its eliptical at the bottom hand but its wide from the sides and narrow from the top and bottom if that makes any sense. But here is the finished product and it looks amazing. Will share a detailed review once i get my hands on it. As mentioned in the other post, they have raised their prices slightly due to the pandemic but it still puts those sharpies, legends and player editions to shame. They have also got their hands on actual match bats of sachin and kohli so they can replicate the exact bats in case anyone's interested. They're on their facebook page.

Lovely bat 👍.
-
Stunning Grains 👌
-
Very nice looking bat
Will have to go and see Mr Jolly next time I'm able to go to India to get a bat made :)
-
I presume this top grade bat is not also under £100 gbp?

Not 100 but certainly under 300.
-
£299.99? :D
-
You can get an MRF grand edition direct from India for around £220. Would be interesting to compare the profile with the Kohli copy. Grains on the one I have are very good, but not as good as the one RS made.

The grades in mrf are slightly confusing. I believe the 220 one isnt top of the range. Chase master may be their top of the range model and is well over 300 pounds if im not mistaken. This is top of the range from RS. I only used the grand edition as a template for the finished product.
Edit: MRF chase master retailing at INR 42,800 or GBP 446

The kohli match bat they have at RS they showed it to me. Its his t20 bat and weighs 2.11, has a super short handle and thick oval at the bottom hand. Will share pics if you guys want

Is it a fitted SSH or a cut down SH? I remember seeing somewhere that he had a coach cut down his handle for a net session but interesting if he adopted that for match bats as well.

Would like to see pics of it :)

Unfortunately the pictures dont show the top of the handle. Will ask them in the morning whether its a fitted SSH or the knob cut off.

Yes this is true, but I think they introduced the grades above the grand edition only within last 18 months or so. Before that the grand edition seemed to be the one advertised as the Kohli copy. I may be wrong though... The grand I got also had a thin round handle, unlike the one at RS.

whats the best way to contact them @Mfarank ? id like to try one of these out

The grand edition of my friend had a weird handle shape that i had RS copy. As i mentioned its wider from the sides flatter from top and bottom.

SG handles are this way.
-
What do you mean by wide at sides? Do you mean standard oval shaped, or maybe oval the other way? One of my BDMs is a flat oval, wider in the direction parallel to the shoulders.

Yes exactly like that. Wider in the direction parallel to the shoulders is the best way to explain it
-
SG handles are this way.
I have only ever held 1 sg. It was my teammates sunny tonny and it was proper skinny round. Similar to most pakistani bats
-
I had an sg and it was standard oval. My MRF is skinny and round. One of my BDMs is oval parallel to shoulders. There's clearly very wide variability, even within the same 'model' of Indian bat.
-
Why on earth would you want an oval with the longest side parallel to the shoulders? That sounds awful! Would love to know why your buddy likes it
Sangakarra used that shape too
-
That actually sounds more the shape of handle I wouldn't mind using. Definitely being sold on getting a custom made RS bat
-
It's a weird shape if you are used to regular oval. I always build them up with tape to a regular oval shape
-
Its a weird shape for me too and I'd never be comfortable with it. But everyone has their own preferences. I guess it could aid someone who wants to involve their bottom hand more
-
I have seen couple of top of the range RS custom made bats and honestly I was not too impressed with the quality and pressing, granted they offer a better value.

Quality: Very good
Customer service: Industry leading
Pressing: Average

You make me laugh

I and few teammates have bought RS bats and never been disappointed.
I also handpicked a bat in Kohli shape when I was in India for a visit which is huge for its weight and pings really good.
Customer service is always amazing.
-
Here are the pics. The weight is less than 2.8 with thick Salix spiral grip, edge tape and shoe goo applied.

iv purchased a couple bats from RS recently and have to say the pressing is superb, both bats seem to have very long middles
-
In my experience, and I've tried and seen a fair few RS bats. They are on the softer side, in so far as they require a fair amount more knocking in than some brands. But they absolutely fly. Their pressing definitely in my experience at least is not average. I'd go so far as to say their pressing is one of the best I've seen from an subcontinent brand. But others may disagree. That's the thing with bats, it is all personal preference and because wood is natural you might get a bad one 🤷♂️

You probably compare to your gm 808 bargains from pdc

Naa i have owned enough bats over the years to make a fair objective comparison.

Is that an actual Virat Kohli bat? Tough to believe looking at its condition!

that is not an actual Virat Kohli bat. its a standard retail MRF Grand edition that my teammate picked up from a store in Delhi. pictures of an actual Virat Kohli bat were shared on a previous page of this topic. that is a different bat and actually got nothing to do with this particular transaction.
-
I like the way Mr Jolly has managed to keep the profile very full, much less concaved than the original MRF. Does this affect the pickup though, having more wood down towards the toe.

Not at all. Both bats pick up exactly the same

Ah..my bad Bro. The MRF bats which I have seen have a very thin handle which made them feel bottom heavy. Definitely needed atleast 2 grips. How is the handle on the RS replica bat?
Wish they invested some time and money on their stickers. They produce decent bats but the stickers leave a lot to desire.

The handle on the mrf was definitely not for me. I didn't like it at all but it wasn't for me so it was replicated exactly the same way. I kind of like the stickers. They're simple and classy. They look a lot better in person.

Do you have the face pic of actual kohli bat ?

The handle on my MRF, also from a store in Delhi, is also small and round. But it was easy to build up to oval with tape and padding, plus extra grip and now it is fine and picks up well.
The stickers and branded logo on the sides in my opinion are iconic and look really good in person. They've kept them the same for years. It's 'in your face' and also bizarre to be advertising a car tyre company. It could only happen in India...

I was referring to the RS stickers. The MRF stickers are lovely.

Yes, I agree the RS stickering is not the best
