Does anyone know if any of the H4L profiles typically have a more convex shape? Either that or is it possible to request a degree of customisation at the regular price points? Cheers!
-
They can do convex profiles, but not sure if the price is the same as the stock shapes. @hell4leather cricket or @Perkins17 will be able to answer
-
My match bat has a convex profile as pretty much a cleft on a handle so is possible

Please email me ,I can discuss

Oooo stop it!

I won't ever go back to a concave profile bat. They can be brilliant, but I find that unless I'm in form I don't get as good a performance out of them. It might be psychological but all the consistently best performing bats I've owned have been convexed.

I can understand the value in concaving and massive edges if your natural game is to really go after everything and hit big. Unfortunately I am not built like a brick wall and I've never had any success trying to smash 6s every other ball so a bat with huge edges just doesn't make sense to me.
-
This is the kind of profile I aim to make on most of my bats, there is just no science that I can find that makes it beneficial to remove wood from any part of the bats core playing area.
I understand when a few years ago the rage was all about edge size but as club players I would say on avg we find the middle 1 in 10 shots so makes much more sense to go for this kind of shape.
-
Never managed to grasp the GN 'scoop' concept.
Seems very counter intuitive compared to full convex profile.
-
Does anyone remember the Newbery Tour? That was properly convex.
-
The issue is that while people are obsessed with edge size, dead weight and grains, concaving is largely unavoidable.
The clefts available to produce bats which are full profiles, decent edge size and light are limited. That's why companies charge the earth for them, because they're rare and
therefore they can.

It might be psychological
I suspect this is true for nearly all members on here. In a blind usage test I dont reckon a single person on here could pick out Convex from concave bats of the same weight. It all comes down to what shapes we like the look of and think will suit us better.
How the bat feels in the hands is the important thing and whether its a weight you can use comfortably for an extended period of time at the crease.
There are other topics on this and sorry to shatter some dreams and theories early in the morning.

This x 1000, find a bat that makes you happy and bat with it 😁

That net session would be interesting to see. Not sure I'd be volunteering to be the bat tester though! ;)

If you have one of these bats where the edges fly for six and you don't want it(!) then feel free to send it my way ;)
-
I have 2 B3 match bats; same size, same grade, exact same weight, same mid-low middle, same pick-up, except one is concaved and the other isn't. They play exactly the same. Honestly couldn't tell the difference between them.

I did have a Kippax that wasn't far off 😂 just far too big a bat for me and not really the best fit for a shortarse who spends too much time on the sofa and not enough in the gym!

Apologies for this deviation from the OP, but a nice argument for concaving is presented by this batmaker https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tuKKGQf2Afg

Argh no no no. Arches do not work like that! Getting weight down is a perfectly valid reason to concave though.
