Title: Second bats
Post by: bigmiddle on November 13, 2020, 06:53:47 PM
I recently bought a replacement for my soon-to-be-no-more bat which I've had for a number of years. I'm thinking about looking for another bat, either a bat very similar to the new main bat to use in the nets and in games occasionally, or an alternative match bat which is either a bit heavier or lighter, with a different profile from the main one, to offer a different option if a situation dictated. Which would people generally recommend (assuming that both isn't an option!)? I'll ask separately about the best place to source the best quality bat I can get for about £150, though if anyone has any suggestions, I'm open to them! Thanks :)

It really is up to you mate, you can’t go wrong with either, but I’d settle on one bat and buy a net bat as a back up.

What's your batting role? If you play the same type of role consistently then probably worth getting a similar bat. If you shift around a lot, maybe look at giving yourself another option.

That's a good point. Historically have been a top-order player but now a middle- or lower-middle-order player, so situations can differ significantly.

What’s your current bat?
For that budget I would consider, in no particular order:
H4L devil
Red Ink
GM signature

I have 2 near-identical match bats, in case one of them breaks, and then a net bat that is slightly lighter with a slightly higher middle, better for the quicker, bouncier nets.

Current (old) bat is a Kookaburra Ice of which I can't remember the weight. The new one is a GM Noir weighing just under 2lb10oz.

Thank you for the recommendations!

That makes sense. I like the idea of having one ready to go if the first one breaks. I think I've been lucky to have one last as long as the Kookaburra has without ever needing a spare (touch wood!).

Would second Red Ink, John makes an excellent bat and his customer service is absolutely top notch.
